Materials

  • Medium weight yellow yarn, 6 oz.
  • Purple ribbon, 1/8”x8”
  • Black doll eyes, 9mm, two
  • Orange felt scrap
  • Polyester stuffing
  • Brush-on-blush

Pattern - Knit Easter Chick

  • 1. Print full-size patterns. Transfer patterns to orange felt. Cut out beak and feet.
  • 2. Body and Head:
  • 3. CO 6 sts.
  • 4. Row 1: P.
  • 5. Row 2: [K1, M1] 6 times. 12 sts.
  • 6. Row 3: P.
  • 7. Rows 4-7: Rep Rows 2 and 3 twice. 48 sts.
  • 8. Row 8: K.
  • 9. Row 9: P.
  • 10. Rows 10-25: Rep Rows 8 and 9 eight times.
  • 11. Row 26: [K2tog, k6] across. 42 sts.
  • 12. Row 27: P.
  • 13. Row 28: [K2tog, k5] across. 36 sts.
  • 14. Row 29: P.
  • 15. Row 30: [K2tog, k4] across. 30 sts.
  • 16. Row 31; P.
  • 17. Row 32: [K2 tog, K3] across. 24 sts.

  • 21. Thread needle and weave through remaining sts; pull tightly and sew end of row together. Stuff chick with polyester stuffing. Gather top and sew together with needle and yarn.

  • 25. Row 2: [K1, M1] 6 times. 12 sts.
  • 26. Row 3: P.
  • 27. Row 4: [K1, M1] across. 24 sts.
  • 28. Row 5: P.
  • 29. Row 6: K.
  • 30. Rows 7-11: Rep Rows 5 and 6 twice. Rep Row 5 once more.
  • 31. Row 12: K2tog across. 12 sts.
  • 32. BO remaining sts in purl, leaving 10" for sewing. Thread needle and sew end of rows together using matching yarn. Gather cast on edge to avoid leaving a hole. Flatten wing. Refer to photo for wing placement.
  • 33. To create loops on top of head, cut 7" length of yarn and thread needle. Insert needle into top and pull 1" loop up. Repeat two times.
  • 34. Cut 7" length of purple ribbon. Create bow and adhere to top of head. Apply dot of adhesive to back of each eye. Adhere eyes 1/2" apart onto front of chick. Fold beak from Step 1 in half; adhere bottom side to front of chick referring to photo for placement. Adhere feet to bottom of chick. Brush blush to each side of beak.
