  • Knitting needles: size 8, size 3.75
  • Yarn needle

Basic Supplies

  • scissors, measuring tape

Abbreviations

BO: bind off
CO: cast on
k: knit
k2tog: knit two together
rep: repeat
SS: slip stitch

YO: yarn over

  • 1. Measure circumference of head across forehead and right above ears.
  • 2. CO 15 sts using size 8 knitting needles.
  • 3. Row 1: *k1, p1; rep from * to end.
  • 4. Row 2: *k1, p1; rep from * to end.
  • 5. Rep Rows 1-2 until work measures 17"-18" depending on head size. (If head measurement ranges from 21"-22", knit until work measures 17". If head ranges from 23"-25", knit until work measures 18".) BO. Tie off and weave in ends. Block work; sew ends together. Tie off; weave in ends. Flip work so seam is inside headband.
  • 6. CO 9 sts using size 3.75 needle.
  • 7. Row 1: *k1, p1; rep from * to end.
  • 8. Row 2: *k1, p1; rep from * to end.
  • 9. Repeat Rows 1-2 until work measures 4-1/2". BO. Tie off; weave in ends. Gently crease headband; sew ends of smaller rectangle around crease. Tie off; weave in ends. Flip headband inside out and straighten smaller rectangle around crease.
