Basic Supplies

  • scissors, straight pins
  • Front
  • 1. Ch 26.
  • 2. Row 1: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, *sk 2 ch, 3 sc in next ch. Rep from * to end. Ch 1, turn. 27 sc/9 3-sc shells.
  • 3. Row 2: Sk first sc, 3 sc in next sc, * sk 2 sc, 3 sc in next sc. Rep from * to end. Ch 1, turn. Rep Row 2 for pattern until work measures 9-1/2", do not ch 1 after final row; end off.
  • Back
  • 1. Repeat all instructions for front; do not end off. Continue pattern by repeating Row 2 until work measures 10 1/2".
  • 2. Decrease for Flap.
  • 3. Row: Sk first sc, 2 sc in next sc, (sk 2 sc, 3 sc in next sc) 7 times, sk 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc.
  • 4. Ch 1 turn. 25 sts.
  • 5. Row 2: Sc in first sc, (sk 2 sc, 3 sc in next sc) 7 times, sk 2 sc, scl1 next sc. Ch 1, turn. 23 sts.
  • 6. Row 3: Sk first 2 sc, 3 sc in next sc, (sk 2 sc, 3 sc in next sc) 6 times. Ch 1, turn. 21 sts.
  • 7. Row 4: Rep Row 1, working bracketed instructions 5 times. 19 sts.
  • 8. Row 5: Rep Row 2, working bracketed instructions 5 times. 17 sts.
  • 9. Row 6: Rep Row 3, working bracketed instructions 4 times. 15 sts.
  • 10. Row 7: Rep Row 1, working bracketed instructions 3 times. 13 sts.
  • 11. Row 8: Rep Row 2, working bracketed instructions 3 times. 11 sts.
  • 12. Row 9: Rep Row 3, working bracketed instructions twice. 9 sts.
  • 13. Row 10: Sk first sc, 2 sc in next sc, sk 2 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sk 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc. Ch 1, turn. 7 sts.
  • 14. Row 11: Sc in first sc, sk 2 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sk 2 sc, sc in next sc. Ch 1, turn 5 sts.
  • 15. Row 12: Sk first 2 sc, 3 sc in next sc. End off. 3 sc.
  • Edging and Button Loop
  • 1. Place front and back so pieces line up at bottom edges. Since fabric is reversible, RS/WS doesn't matter. Pin into place with straight pins. Beginning at top left side of front, sc front and back together working down left side, work 3 sc in corner, sc across bottom edge, work 3 sc in corner, work along right side and up right side of flap, to center of point, ch 8, sc in same sc as last sc and along left side of flap, join rnd with sl st in first sc. Fold flap into place, mark button placement with straight pin, and sew button into place. Weave in ends.
