Christmas Treat Cans

Materials

  • FOR ALL:
  • Recycled metal cans, any size
  • 6-strand Embroidery Floss (DMC): Black; White
  • SNOWMAN:
  • Jiffy yarn: White (Lion Brand)
  • Felt scraps: black; orange
  • Black pom-poms, large, two
  • Black/white gingham ribbon
  • Cardstock: orange; lt. blue
  • Sticker (Scrapworks)
  • Wiggle eyes, two sizes
  • ELF:
  • Jiffy yarn: lt. pink (Lion Brand)
  • Felt scraps: red; green
  • Rudolph’s Stripes patterned paper (Reminisce)
  • Pink cardstock
  • Christmas sentiment paper (KI Memories)
  • Wiggle eyes, two
  • Red flat-back button
  • Black/white dot ribbon, 3/8”
  • MOUSE:
  • Wool-Ease yarn: Heather Grey (Lion Brand)
  • Felt: white; gray; black
  • Patterned paper: green/white dot (Making Memories)
  • White cardstock stickers
  • Wiggle eyes, two sizes
  • Small bell
  • Black/white dot ribbon, 3/8”

  • Hole punch, 1/16”

Pattern - Merry Mix Recipe

  • General
  • 1. Remove labels and residue from cans. Wash and dry cans thoroughly.
  • Snowman
  • 1. Basecoat can Jack O Lantern Orange. Apply varnish.
  • 2. Drill holes in can sides for handles. Cut 12" wire length. Insert wire ends in holes; twist to secure.
  • 3. Starting at bottom of can, wrap yarn around can until 3/4 of can is covered; glue ends to secure.
  • 4. Print and cut out patterns. Cut nose from orange felt, and three small pieces for eyebrows and mouth from black felt. Use one strand black floss to blanket stitch nose. Use photo as guide to glue felt shapes and eyes to face.
  • 5. Glue pom-poms to sides of face. Cut 8" ribbon length and glue ends to can under pom-poms. Tie ribbon bow around can.
  • 6. For tag, cut 2-1/4"x3-1/4" orange cardstock rectangle; round corners. Adhere sticker to lt. blue cardstock; trim slightly larger than sticker. Punch hole in tag and use ribbon to tie to handle.
  • Mouse
  • 1. Basecoat can True Red. Apply varnish.
  • 2. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 from Snowman instructions.
  • 3. Print and cut out patterns. Cut snout and outer ears from gray felt, inner ears from white felt, and nose from black felt. Use one strand black floss to blanket stitch around snout and inner ears. Use photo as guide to glue felt shapes and eyes to face.
  • 4. Insert ribbon through bell loop and tie around bottom of can.
  • 5. For tag, cut 2"x2-1/2" rectangle from patterned paper and 1-1/2"x2" rectangle from white card stock. Layer rectangles together and adhere stickers in center; round corners. Punch hole in tag and use ribbon to tie to can.
  • Elf
  • 1. Basecoat can Kelly Green. Apply varnish.
  • 2. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 from Snowman instructions.
  • 3. Print and cut out patterns. Cut ears from green felt and hat from red felt. Use one strand white floss to blanket stitch ears. Glue felt shapes and eyes to elf.
  • 4. For tag, cut 2"x2-1/2" patterned rectangle and 1-1/2"x2". Layer together and adhere sentiment to center; round corners. Punch hole and use ribbon to tie around can.
