Pattern - Crocheted Sunflower Afghan

  • 1. In center panel pattern, using H-8 hook and A, 5 pattern repeats = 4"/10c.m.

  • 1. Measure carefully. Correct finished panel size is important for final assembly.
  • Center Panel
  • 1. With A, chain 72.
  • 2. With A, chain 72. Row 1: 2 dc in third ch from hook, *skip next 2 ch, (sc, 2 dc) in next ch; repeat from * to last 3 ch, skip next 2 ch, sc in last ch, turn-23 pattern repeats.
  • 3. Row 2: Ch 1, 2 dc in first sc, *skip next 2 dc, (sc, 2 dc) in next sc; repeat from * across, skip next 2 dc, sc in top of turning ch, turn.
  • 4. Repeat Row 2 until piece measures approximately 18 1/2"/47 cm from beginning. Fasten off.
  • Center Panel - Edging
  • 1. Join E with slip st in any st along edge of panel.
  • 2. Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in same st as join, work 42 sc evenly spaced along each edge of panel and work 3 sc in each corner; join with slip st in first sc.
  • 3. Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, working 3 sc in each corner; join with slip st in first sc.
  • 4. Repeat Round 2 until edging measures approximately 1-3/4"/4.5 cm. Fasten off. Join A with slip st in any st of last round. With A, repeat Round 2. Fasten off. Block piece to measure 24x24"/61x61 cm.
  • First Side Panel (make 2)
  • 1. With B, chain 38.
  • 2. Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook, *skip next 2 ch, 5 dc in next ch, skip next 2 ch, sc in next ch; repeat from * across, turn-6 pattern repeats.
  • 3. Row 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in first sc, skip next 2 dc, sc in next dc, skip next 2 dc, *5 dc in next sc, skip next 2 dc, sc in next dc, skip next 2 dc; repeat from * to last sc, 3 dc in last sc, turn.

  • Second Side Panel - Edging
  • 1. Join A with slip st in any st along edge of panel.
  • 2. Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in same st as join, work sc evenly spaced around, working 3 sc in each corner; join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off. Block piece to measure 12 x 36"/30.5x91.5 cm.
  • Flower (make 8)
  • 1. Holding 2 strands of E together, chain 4; join with slip st in first ch to form a ring.
  • 2. Rnd 1: Ch 1, work 7 sc in ring; do not join.
  • 3. Rnd 2: Working in back loops only, [2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc] 3 times, 2 sc in next sc-11 sc.
  • 4. Rnd 3: Working in back loops only, [sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc] 5 times, slip st in next st-16 sts. Fasten off. Join 1 strand of D with slip st in any st of last round.

  • 3. Repeat Round 1 until border measures approximately 2"/5 cm. Fasten off.
  • 4. Arrange flowers and leaves according to assembly diagram and sew in place. Using yarn needle, weave in all ends.
