  • Vintage Fan Pin


  • Yarn: Aunt Lydia's Classic Crochet Thread (Coats & Clark), size 10, one ball: Myrtle Green
  • Assorted buttons, ribbon flowers, bows, or beads of choice


  • Crochet hook: size US 7 (1.5mm) or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Pin back, 1" long
  • Sewing needle and matching thread
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks

  • 1. Finished size is 2-1/4"x2-1/4" measured at widest points.
  • Notes
  • 1. Ch 3 always counts as first or last dc.
  • 2. Ch 4 always counts as first or last tr.
  • Rows
  • 1. RS ch 4, work 4 dc in fourth ch from hook; ch 3, turn. 5 dc.
  • 2. work (2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc) twice. Ch 3, turn. 7 dc.
  • 3. dc in same st, (dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc) 3 times, ch 5 (counts as first tr and ch 1), turn. 11 dc.
  • 4. tr in next st, (ch 1, tr) in each st across; ch 3, turn.
  • 5. dc in each tr and in each ch 1 across; ch 4, turn. 21 dc.
  • 6. tr in next 2 sts, (2 tr in next st, tr in next 2 sts) across. Ch 1, turn. 27 tr.
  • 7. (edging rnd) sc in same st, (ch 4, sl st in third ch from hook to make p, ch 1, sk next st, sc in next st) across. For side, work sc evenly along the sides of dc and tr. In original ch, work (sl st, ch 3, 3 dc, ch 3, sl st) for fan handle. Rep for side and join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off, weave in ends.

  • 1. With hot glue gun, glue ribbon flowers, assorted buttons, beads, or bows to the fan. Make sure glue bonds with buttons and fan for durability. With sewing needle and thread, sew pin back to upper center of fan, hiding stitching behind embellishments.
