Materials

  • Fabric: white flannel, Weeks Dye Works Candy Apple Wool
  • Wichelt Imports Mill Hill Beads: White Seed Beads, 11/0; Ice Bugle Beads, 11/0 (6mm long)
  • YLI Corp. White Silamide, Size A
  • Kreinik Silver No. 8 Fine Braid
  • Sewing thread: red, blue
  • Fiberfill stuffing

Tools

  • Tapestry needle or size 28 chenille needle

Basic Supplies

  • white tissue paper, tweezers, scissors

Pattern - Beaded Snowflake Ornament

  • 1. Print out full-size patterns. Transfer snowflake pattern A and B onto tissue paper. Cut two flannel circles and four red wool circles using circle pattern.
  • 2. Center flannel circle behind wool circle and place tissue paper pattern A on right side of wool; pin in place. Baste outside edge of pattern using blue sewing thread. Repeat step for snowflake B.
  • 3. Work stitches and beads through tissue paper, wool, and flannel. Make sure stitches show on backside.
  • 4. Work straight lines between dots using straight stitch and silver braid on ornaments.
  • 5. Use single backstitch with white silamide and seed bead to work snowflake design onto traced dots on ornaments.
  • 6. Remove tissue paper and any visible basting on wool using tweezers.
  • 7. center wool backing on wrong side of each ornament, match edges and pin. Stitch front and back pieces of wool together, leaving 2" opening, using small basting stitch and red thread.
  • 8. Attach hanger for ornaments with 8" piece of silver braid. Use small stitches to attach hanger to inner flannel fabric.
  • 9. Use backstitch bead and bugle with silamide and seed bead to work border of snowflake A. Stitch until 2" opening and stuff with fiberfill. Complete border.
  • 10. Use feather stitch with silver braid and seed beads to work border edge of snowflake B. Stitch border until 2" opening and stuff with fiberfill. Complete border.
