Punch Needle Mitten & Stocking

Materials

  • DMC White Punch Needle Weaver’s Cloth Embroidery Fabric, 10”x10”
  • Embroidery floss: medium blue, dark blue, white, olive green, holly green, red
  • Red rhinestones, 8mm, three
  • Felt: blue, red
  • White ribbon, 1/8”-wide

Tools

  • Punch needle with single floss needle
  • DMC Marbleized Embroidery Scissors
  • Interlocking embroidery hoop, 6”
  • Beacon Adhesives Fabri-Tac Permanent Adhesive

Basic Supplies

  • scissors, toothpicks, transfer paper, fabric pen or marker

Pattern - Punch Needle Mitten & Stocking

  • 1. Print out full-size patterns.
  • Mitten
  • 1. Transfer mitten pattern to fabric. Place fabric in embroidery hoop, making sure fabric is taut.
  • 2. Thread punch needle with single strand of white floss. Fill in snowflake area, punching at least two times. Fill in small areas on mitten cuff.
  • 3. Thread punch needle with single strand of dark blue floss. Outline mitten and cuff at least three times. Fill in circle around snowflake. Refill thread as necessary.
  • 4. Thread needle with medium blue floss; fill in remaining unpunched areas.
  • 5. Apply glue to back of design while still in hoop. Let dry completely. (Note: The "back" is unlooped side.)
  • 6. Cut 6" ribbon length; fold in half for hanging loop. Cut out design close to edge without actually cutting loops. Apply glue to cut edges and press onto red felt, sandwiching ribbon between punched and felt layers. Cut out design again.
  • Stocking
  • 1. Transfer stocking pattern to fabric. Position fabric in embroidery hoop, making sure fabric is taut.
  • 2. Thread punch needle with single strand of red floss. Fill in lines on stocking with at least two rows of thread. Outline stocking with at least three rows of thread. Fill in toe and heel areas.
  • 3. Thread punch needle with single strand of holly green floss. Outline holly leaves and vein at least three times. Thread punch needle with single strand of olive green floss; fill in leaves.
  • 4. Thread punch needle with single strand of white floss. Fill in all remaining areas.
  • 5. Apply glue to back of design while still in hoop. Let dry completely. (Note: The "back" is the unlooped side.)
  • 6. Cut 6" ribbon length; fold in half for hanging loop. Cut out design close to edge without actually cutting loops. Apply glue to cut edges and press onto red felt, sandwiching ribbon between punched and felt layers. Cut out design again.
  • 7. Adhere red rhinestone berries to stocking.
