Pattern - Haunted House Photo Display

  • 1. Print and cut out patterns. Trace patterns onto foam board using pencil. Cut out shapes including photo openings and 6"x10" square base from foam board using craft knife and ruler on self-healing mat. Discard all photo openings except door.
  • 2. Add texture to foam board edges by poking with pencil. Avoid poking bottom edges that will need to be glued. If desired, add texture to front of "roof" pieces by making light cross-hatched score lines and other surface scratches using craft knife. Set roof and door pieces aside.
  • 3. Using photo as guide, plan papers for house and base. Place wrong side of each cut foam board house piece on right side of papers and trace. Include photo openings. Cut out main shape using scissors and photo openings using craft knife. Adhere cut paper shape to corresponding foam shape using glue stick, pressing to secure. Let dry completely.
  • 4. Distress visible edges of house using sandpaper; sand at an angle, away from piece. Also sand photo "windows."
  • 5. Assemble house, adhering with hot glue gun. Adhere Long Lower Roof to Sides/Turret Unit. Then adhere Main House, making sure bottoms are even. Adhere Porch Roof, main House Roofs, and Turret Roof.
  • 6. Position assembled house upright, centered on base. Secure with hot glue.
  • 7. Cut thickness of front door in half by slicing through foam all around edge of door using craft knife. Twist to split door into two thin halves; discard one half. Using door as template, cut scrapbook paper to cover both sides of door. Adhere papers to door; sand to distress. Tack glue to left side of door opening as shown. Adhere envelope to back of house.
  • 8. Using pattern pieces as guides, trim photos slightly larger than window and door openings using scissors. Adhere photos in place using tape. (Note: Replace photos each year, labeling old photos before storing in clasp envelope.)
  • 9. Adhere cutouts to contrasting paper. Fussy cut with scissors, leaving 1/8" border around edges. Adhere embellishments to house as shown. Prop up freestanding cutouts with scraps of foamboard adhered into place.
  • Tip
  • 1. To cut foam board easily, score line lightly first with craft knife. Make subsequent passes, pressing firmly to slice deeper and deeper until board is cut. Replace knife blades often.
