Materials

  • Cookbook, 8-1/4”x9-1/2”
  • Blue/white checked dishtowel
  • Green cotton fabric, 5” square
  • Blue flat button, 3/4”
  • Blue/white gingham ribbon, 7/8”
  • Bright blue embroidery floss
  • Lt. green craft thread
  • White eyelet
  • Patterned cardstock

Tools

  • Steam-A-Seam Sticky Back For Appliquè (Therm O Web)
  • Embroidery needle
  • Hole punch, 3/16”
  • Computer and printer or black fine-tip permanent pen
  • 1. Cover cookbook with dishtowel in same was as paper book cover, then determine placement of front cover leaf design. (Note: Embroider design anywhere on front half of towel, but center from side to side, so when towel is removed from book, it is symmetrical.)
  • 2. Remove towel from book. Print and cut out pattern. Transfer design to towel.
  • 3. Follow manufacturer's instructions to adhere adhesive to back of green fabric. Cut twelve leaves from fabric and adhere to towel.
  • 4. Use two strands of floss to stem stitch details on and around leaves. Use blue floss to sew button to center of leaf design.
  • 5. Cover cookbook with towel in same way as Step 1. Wrap ribbon around bottom of book and thread through measuring spoons; tie bow.
  • 6. Use computer to print or handwrite "Enjoy life...it's delicious!" on cardstock; trim to tag shape. Punch hole in tag; attach eyelet. Insert craft thread through eyelet and measuring spoons; knot.
