Quilled Bird Bottles

size: 4-1/4" tall


  • Glass bottles with corks (available at craft stores), 2-1/2”x4-1/4”, two
  • Paper quilling strips, 1/8”-wide: bright green; turquoise; yellow; bright pink; lt. pink; orange; black
  • Textured patterned papers (light to medium shades): blue; yellow; brown; purple; green
  • Netting, 2”-wide: pink; purple
  • Black mini brads


  • Quilling tool
  • Ink pads: blue; brown
  • Hole punch, 1/16”
  • Plastic circle template
  • Zip Dry Paper Glue (Beacon Adhesives)
  • Sewing machine and black thread

Pattern - Quilled Bird Bottles

  • General
  • 1. Print and cut out patterns. (Note: Refer to "Basic Quilling Instructions" throughout.)
  • Blue Bird Bottle
  • 1. Cut 2"x3" green and 1-3/4"x2-3/4" yellow paper rectangles. Glue yellow rectangle to green rectangle center. Machine sew straight stitch around yellow rectangle close to edge.
  • 2. For legs, glue 1-1/4" black quilling strip lengths to stitched rectangle, trimming leg ends even with rectangle edge.
  • 3. Cut bird from blue paper; ink edges blue. Glue bird to rectangle, following pattern. Punch hole in bird at eye dot; attach brad. Glue assembled green rectangle to one side of glass bottle.
  • 4. Cut long pink netting strip; tie bow around bottle and trim ends.
  • 5. Roll 24" bright pink quilling strip length into 1/2" circle; glue to bow center.
  • 6. Make and glue quilled shapes as follows:
  • Beak
  • 1. Cut 5" orange strip length, roll into 3/8" circle, crease to form triangle, and glue to side of bird's head.
  • Wing
  • 1. Cut 18" bright pink strip length, roll into 3/4" circle, crease to form teardrop shape, and glue to body.
  • Tail feathers
  • 1. Cut three 12" turquoise strip lengths, roll into 1/2" circles, crease to form feather shapes, and glue to end of tail.
  • Brown Bird Bottle
  • 1. Follow same basic instructions as blue bird bottle, cutting small background rectangle from purple paper, bird shape from brown paper, inking bird edges with brown ink, making bead from yellow strip, wing from green strip, tail feathers from turquoise strips, wrapping purple netting strip around bottle, and glue green quilled roll to netting bow.
  • Basic Quilling Instructions
  • 1. Cut paper quilling strip to desired length. Follow quilling tool manufacturer's instructions to roll strip and remove strip from roll. Place roll in desired size circle on template. Let roll expand to size of circle opening. Carefully remove circle and glue ends of strip to roll to secure circle. Use fingers to crease edges to form shapes.
