Pattern - Halloween Treat Cans

  • Metal Can Preparation
  • 1. Remove labels by gently scrubbing with a brush under warm running water.
  • 2. Use rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover to remove any stubborn adhesive residue.
  • 3. Run cans through dishwasher to thoroughly clean or hand wash with dish detergent in warm water.
  • 4. Sand inside lid to smooth sharp metal edges.
  • 5. Use metal primer or a one-step product to make sure paint adheres to surface. Metal is a non-porous surface that does not allow instant adhesion. It must be primed and protected with sealer.
  • Cat
  • 1. Basecoat can Tangerine. Apply varnish.
  • 2. Drill holes in can sides for handles. Cut 12" wire length. Insert wire ends in holes; twist to secure.
  • 3. Starting at bottom of can, wrap yarn around can until 3/4 of can is covered; glue ends to secure.
  • 4. Print and cut out patterns. Cut ears and inside ears from felt; glue to can. Thread string through button holes for eyes; trim excess. For whiskers, cut two 3" lengths from string. Glue whiskers, nose, eyes, and rick rack (mouth) to face.
