Pattern - Valentine Greetings Card

  • Preparation
  • 1. Print out pattern; lightly transfer basic pattern lines onto card front, inside card, and envelope using an old piece of grey graphite paper. (Note: Avoid tracing lines more than once as complete erasure is difficult.) Use art eraser to lighten all graphite lines. Use pencil to lightly draw a line 00" from right edge of card front; cut edge with decorative scissors.
  • 2. Use micron-pen to draw vines and lettering; allow to dry 30 minutes before painting design.
  • Artist's Tips
  • 1. Keep work area clean at all times when working with cards. Take great care not to splash or drip water onto paper as it will leave a permanent mark. For best results, thin paint as needed with Flow Medium; do not use water. Use Wicker White to touch up or hide mistakes if you paint outside the lines.
  • Hearts
  • 1. Use mix of Baby Pink + tch. of Magenta to base light areas. Use mix of Wicker White + Magenta (5:1) to base dark areas. Use flow medium to shade light and dark areas Magenta.
  • 2. Use micron-pen to outline hearts and to add detailing. Using photo as guide, use stylus to add dip-dots in Wicker White, Fresh Foliage, and Magenta. For hearts, place two dip-dots next to one another; wipe stylus, and pull each dot to a point to form bottom of heart.
  • 3. Use #2 round to paint Payne's Grey checks on smallest heart.
  • 4. Load #1 round with flow medium; side-load Fresh Foliage and stroke leaves and calyxes. Allow to dry overnight. Use micron-pen to outline and add veins.
  • Finishing
  • 1. Allow paints to dry at least 24 hours. Gently erase graphite lines. (Note: For stubborn lines, use a clean pencil eraser; apply slightly more pressure until lines are removed.
