Pattern - Sunflower Garden Spinner

  • 1. On covered work surface, paint paint stirrer, teardrops, plastic cap, and skewer green. Let dry.
  • 2. Flatten the foam ball on one side by pressing ball on work surface. Flatten opposite side.
  • 3. Insert skewer through center on flattened side. Enlarge hole with skewer until straw can be pushed through foam ball. Hold onto straw and paint foam ball brown. Let dry.
  • 4. Apply decoupage medium onto painted surfaces.
  • 5. Print out pattern. Cut four yellow and four gold petals from plastic lids.
  • 6. Use scissors point to make small hole on center of paint stirrer, about 1" from end of curve. Enlarge hole so skewer fits tightly in hole. Insert petals into curved side of foam ball. Spot glue petals.
  • 7. Insert skewer through paint stirrer. Slide pony bead onto back of skewer and glue it on skewer and stirrer. Make hole in center of cap. Slide cap onto skewer, then onto flower. Slide one more bead on front of flower. Check to see that flower can rotate. If not, slide front bead further away. When in position, glue bead to skewer. (Note: Don't glue flower to bead.) Glue teardrops (leaves) on stirrer.
  • 8. Trim skewer flush with beads. Position spinner in flower pot or garden.
  • Tip
  • 1. An adult can drill hole in paint stirrer with appropriate-sized bit. A 1/8" dowel can be used instead of bamboo skewer. Although decoupage medium seals wood and foam, it won't hold up under sprinkler or heavy rain, so make sure to bring your sunflower inside!
