DecoArt Americana: Dragon Fruit, Lamp Black, Olive Green, Purple Wave, Tangerine, Turquoise Blue, Warm White
DecoArt: Multi-Purpose Sealer, Acrylic Sealer/Finisher Matte (for indoor use) or DuraClear Soft Touch Varnish (for outdoor use)
DecoArt Metallic Lustre: Lavish Green, Brilliant Turquoise
Strong adhesive

  • Pattern - Butterfly Birdhouse 
  • 1. Sand rough edges of birdhouse and wipe away dust. Seal birdhouse with multi-purpose sealer using wash; let dry. Sand lightly with fine grit sandpaper until smooth. 
  • 2. Base birdhouse and ball knobs Warm White until opaque. Let paint cure several hours or overnight.
  • 3. Dip end of paintbrush into Lamp Black and dot ball knobs as shown.
  • 4. Tape off stripes on roof using painter’s tape and paint Lamp Black using shader. Use vertical strokes to avoid pushing paint under tape. Let dry. Repeat until opaque and remove tape. Use chisel end of shader and hand sanitizer to remove unwanted paint. Touch up white stripes with Warm White as needed. Paint roof top trim, edges of roof and birdhouse base Lamp Black until opaque. Let dry.
  • 5. Visit www.CraftIdeas.com to print full size patterns; click on Magazine, then Patterns. Trace butterflies onto birdhouse as desired.
  • 6. To paint green butterfly, load #2 round with Olive Green and pick up small amount of Warm White. Blend color slightly on palette. Paint body and fill color areas of wings. Let dry. Add touches of Turquoise Blue and Purple Wave for interest.
  • 7. To paint pink butterfly, load #2 round with Dragon Fruit and pick up small amount of Warm White. Blend color slightly on palette. Paint body and fill color areas of wings. Let dry. Add touches of Tangerine for interest.
  • 8. To paint blue butterfly, load #2 round with Turquoise Blue and pick up small amount of Warm White. Blend color slightly on palette. Paint body and fill color areas of wings. Let dry. Add touches of Purple Wave for interest.
  • 9. To paint purple butterfly (not pictured), load #2 round with Purple Wave and pick up small amount of Warm White. Blend color slightly on palette. Paint body and fill color areas of wings. Let dry. Add touches of Olive Green and Turquoise for interest.
  • 10. Highlight butterfly bodies Warm White. Thin Lamp Black and paint black areas of wings and antennae with #2 round. Let dry and erase all pencil lines.
  • 11. Paint flower drawer pull Lamp Black; let dry. Pick up Lavish Green Metallic Lustre on fingertip and gently rub over raised edges of petals. Repeat with Brilliant Turquoise Metallic Lustre. Buff with soft cloth.
  • 12. Adhere ball knobs onto underside of base. Adhere flower drawer pull over hole on front of birdhouse. Spray with Sealer/Finisher for indoor use or Soft Touch Varni sh for outdoor use.
