Materials

  • Clay pot and saucer, 4” tall
  • Dark assorted fabric scraps, 3” square, one per chick
  • Ceramcoat Acrylic Paints: Antique White; Butter Yellow; Leaf Green; Bubble Gum; Laguna Blue
  • Wool roving: yellow; pink; lt. blue
  • Pink felt, 1”x16”
  • Rick rack: pink, 1/8”; yellow, 1/4”
  • It’s a Girl Felt Blooms yellow flower sticker
  • Pink rhinestone brads
  • Grapevine wire
  • Crinkled paper filler: pink; yellow
  • Thin card board scrap

  • Embroidery floss: pink; black; orange; dk. blue
  • Drill with 1/4” glass and tile bit

  • White chalk

Pattern - Country Chick Basket & Pins

  • 1. Print and cut out patterns.

  • 1. Drill 1/4" hole in center opposite sides of rim for handle. Paint rim on pot and saucer and inner pot Butter Yellow, and remaining saucer and pot areas Antique White. Use end of medium paintbrush to dot flower petals Bubble Gum and Laguna Blue as shown. Dot pink flower centers Butter Yellow and blue centers Bubble Gum. Use liner to paint stems Leaf Green. Use angle shader to stroke in leaves Leaf Green. Place tip of brush facing stem and push down. Rotate brush 180° towards tip of leaf gradually lightening pressure until tip of brush is even with tip of leaf. Repeat for all leaves. Use pouncer to randomly add dots with Butter Yellow.
  • 2. Place pink felt band around pot rim and mark placement of holes. Cut slits long enough to fit grapevine handle. Reposition felt band; cut ends even in back and glue to secure. Insert grapevine ends through holes; twist to secure. Tie yellow rick rack around center of rim; trim ends. Use three strands pink floss to stitch rick rack as shown. Punch hole in center of felt flower sticker. Use brad to attach flower sticker to felt strip.
  • 3. For needle felted chick, follow manufacturer's instructions to fuse woven interfacing to back of fabric. Cut 1-1/2" circle from fused fabric. Trace chick onto tracing paper, then retrace lines with white chalk on reverse side. Turn right side up on circle and use ballpoint pen to retrace lines.
  • 4. Pull off enough wool roving to fill chick pattern. Form roving into chick shape and place on upholstery foam. Use felting needle to attach roving to circle by jabbing it up and down through circle into foam.
  • 5. Use two strands black floss to make French knot at eye dot. Use two strands orange floss to sew legs and beak as shown. The three strands dk. blue floss to sew pink rick rack around circle as shown.
  • 6. Glue rick rack and needle felted circle to pot.

  • 1. Follow Steps 3 through 5 to make needle felted chick in desired color.
  • 2. Transfer oval pattern to back of thin card board; cut out. Glue pin back to oval and card board to back of needle felted circle.
