Materials

  • Pillow slipcover of choice

Tools

  • Testors Solo Resin Airbrush Set (with A470 airbrush and .40mm General Purpose Nozzle) with AC100 Diaphragm Compressor
  • Flower stencil of choice
  • Variety of pliable fall leaves
  • Testors Airbrushable Acrylic Paints: Opaque Yellow (9442), Opaque Orange (9443), Opaque Brown (9445), Opaque Purple (9448), Transparent Daisy (9480), Transparent Chocolate (9483), Transparent Cherry (9484), Transparent Dark Green (9489)
  • Painter’s tape

Basic Supplies

  • scrap fabric, mat board, paper towels, scrap paper, iron with pressing cloth and pressing surface
  • Note
  • 1. Wash, dry, and iron fabrics without fabric softener, dryer sheets, or spray starch before use.
  • Pillow
  • 1. Place sheets of paper inside slipcover to protect from paint bleeding through; mount to mat board with painter's tape.
  • 2. Place flower stencil on fabric; tape in place. See Photo 1. Mask off all other areas not being sprayed with paper towels held in place with tape. Spray with Transparent Chocolate. Repeat as desired, repositioning stencil and masks. Remove all stencils and masks.

  • 3. Place leaves on fabric; tape in place. See Photo 2. Lightly spray outer edges with Opaque Brown. Reposition leaves and repeat, overlapping edges and using different leaves to achieve desired effect. See Photo 3.

  • 4. Replace flower stencil over sprayed flowers, overspraying each with Opaque Purple. See Photo 4. Spray centers heavier than petals.

  • 5. Remove all stencils and masks. Freehand spray leaves with light layer of Transparent Dark Green both inside and outside brown outlines. See Photo 5.

  • 6. Freehand spray leaves with light layer of Transparent Daisy. See Photo 6.

  • 7. Freehand spray a few leaves and flower centers with Transparent Cherry. See Photo 7. Randomly spray around outer edges of design. See Photo 8.

  • 8. Continue to add more sprayed layers in desired colors until preferred effect is achieved. Let dry completely.
  • 9. Heat-set paint by pressing with iron. Cover design with pressing cloth and press slowly without steam.
  • Tip
  • 1. Practice freehand spraying colors on scrap fabric to gain confidence.
