Pattern - Cherry Blossom Jewelry Box
- 1. Lightly sand and wipe dust. Basecoat outer box and lid mix of equal parts Mink Tan with sealer. Sand, then basecoat again with just Mink Tan. Base inner box, lid, and feet mix of Wedgewood Blue with sealer. Sand then basecoat again with just Wedgewood Blue.
- 2. Use straightedge to mark two vertical lines on purse. Tape off outer edges, burnishing edges to prevent seepage. Use palette knife to mix quarter-sized puddle of equal parts Wedgewood Blue with Soft Blue; divide in half and save for blossom. Mix remaining half with equal parts Faux Glazing Medium; blend well. Generously apply glazing mixture onto lid, then press in quilted side of paper towel. Lift, then repeat for box front. Remove tape while paint is still wet. Let dry.
- 3. Print and cut out pattern. Transfer design, except stamen, to box.
- 4. Use pattern color key to paint design as indicated. (Note: 1 = Soft Blue; 2 = mix of three parts Soft Blue with one part Wedgewood Blue; 3 = mix of three parts Wedgewood Blue with one part Soft Blue. Carefully paint blossoms with solid coverage. Shade with Mix 2 where petal overlaps as indicated with an "x" on pattern.
- 5. Paint stamen tops mix of equal parts Wedgewood Blue with Burnt Umber, and stems mix of equal parts Toffee with Soft Blue. Shade tops with float of Burnt Umber if needed.
- 6. Paint branch Sable Brown. Use #4 shader to dry brush right side Burnt Umber, and highlight left side Toffee.
- 7. Use multi-round brush to paint pattern on lid and left side of stripe with slightly water-thinned Sable Brown.
- 8. Paint handle beads Wedgewood Blue and blue mixes.
- 9. Apply several light coats varnish.
