Toy Boxes

Materials

  • Ready-to-Finish wooden items (available at Jo-Ann Stores): boxes, 9-1/2” tall, four; letters (to spell “TOYS”), 7-1/2” tall

Tools

  • Acrylic paints: white; black; pumpkin; apple green; medium yellow; turquoise
  • Varnish
  • Paintbrushes: flat, 1”, 1-1/2”; liner, #1
  • Sandpaper
  • Wood glue
  • Spouncer (Plaid)
  • 1. Basecoat: boxes white; "T" turquoise; "O" medium yellow; "Y" apple green; "S" pumpkin. Let dry.
  • 2. Use Spouncer to dot: "T" medium yellow; "O" pumpkin; "Y" turquoise; "S" apple green.
  • 3. For stripes, thin turquoise, medium yellow, apple green, and pumpkin paints individually with water. Use 1" flat brush to paint stripes on box sides as shown. (Note: Stripes do not need to be perfectly straight.)
  • 4. Use liner to paint a black wavy, broken line, interspersed with dots, around edges of all letters and box sides.
  • 5. Glue letters to corresponding color striped boxes.
  • 6. Apply varnish.
