  • Terra cotta pot, 8”
  • Wooden oval, 4”
  • Recycled cardboard, 3”x6”
  • Natural burlap, 12” square
  • Green jute twine, 48” length
  • Natural hemp twine, 24” length
  • Plastic bags, 3”x4”
  • Bird seed
  • Tree seedling and small amount soil
  • White cardstock or construction paper
  • Plaid Simply Foam Stamp: Garden Leaf, 1” Dot Alphabet
  • DecoArt Americana Acrylic Paints: Celery Green, Lt. Avocado, Snow White, Lamp Black
  • Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue


  • Hole punch
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Paintbrush
  • Black marker
  • Newspaper (to cover work surface)
  • 1. On covered work surface, paint bottom of pot Celery Green and top of pot Avocado Green. Paint wooden oval (sign) Snow White. Let dry.
  • 2. Use alphabet stamps and Lamp Black to stamp "Plant a Tree" on sign. Use garden leaf stamp and Lamp Black to stamp around top of pot. Let dry.
  • 3. Measure and cut 3"x6" corrugated cardboard rectangle. Glue rectangle around front of pot. Measure and cut 36" green jute twine length. Wrap green twine around pot; knot ends. Glue sign on cardboard.
  • 4. Draw 2-1/2"-long teardrop shapes on white card stock. Use black marker to write benefits of trees (see benefits of trees below) on teardrops. Cut out teardrops. Use hole punch to punch hole in top of each teardrop.
  • 5. Measure and cut 4" lengths of green jute twine. Fill plastic bags with bird seed. Thread green jute through holes on teardrops; tie teardrops around bags. Position bags in pot.
  • 6. For tree seedling, place seedling in soil in center of burlap square. Measure and cut 24" length of natural hemp twine. Gather sides of burlap and tie hemp twine around top; knot ends.
