Pattern - Fresh Christmas Bakery

  • Preparation
  • 1. Use Khaki Tan to base lid front and easel (omitting bottom and sides of easel). Base all remaining areas Hauser Dk. Green. Use fine-grit sand paper to gently sand in direction of wood grain; wipe dust. Base areas again. Wrap damp sock around two index fingers and dab into Burnt Umber; work paint into sock then wipe lid front and Khaki Tan area of easel to antique. Add a hint more water and paint to sock as you work, allowing edges to remain a bit darker. If antiquing is too dark, wipe back with touch more water.
  • 2. Print out pattern; transfer basic pattern lines so bottom of snowladies are aligned with bottom edge of lid front. (Transfer details as needed.)
  • 3. Use one coat Lt. Buttermilk to base following: hats, snowladies, snow, candy canes, balls above candy cane stand columns, sugar canister, and "Fresh Bakery" sign. (Note: Be sure to add snow on front edge of easel as if dripping.) Repeat basecoat, blotching on paint for hats, candy canes, sugar canister, and sign. For snowladies, snow, and candy cane column balls, blob heavy applications of Lt. Buttermilk for a textured appearance. Allow to dry thoroughly.
  • Painting Instructions
  • 1. Note: All shading will be applied with Burnt Umber to all aspects of design; shading will be completed at final stage after all basecoating and detailing has been applied.
  • Signs, Sugar Canister, and Candy Canes

  • 2. For snowlady on right, base apron Reindeer Moss Green. Base rose button Tomato Red; use handle end of brush to dot "pin heads" next to button. Add tiny Lt. Buttermilk highlight lines on pin heads. Use Burnt Umber to line pin needles and to add detailing at bottom of apron and button. Base gingerbread cookie Raw Sienna. (Note: Detailing will be added after shading is completed.)
  • Holly Leaves, Pine Sprig & Stepping Stones

  • 2. Base stepping stones Raw Sienna.
  • Shading and Detailing
  • 1. Use Burnt Umber to shade around each element; shade to round and detail elements. Deepen shadows. Shade along either side of wood panels of bakery stand. (Note: Khaki Tan background is basecoat of stand.) Use small end of stylus to dot "nails" on wood panels. Repeat shading on panels.
  • 2. Use Lamp Black to dot eyes on snowladies and gingerbread cookie. Line cookie frosting Lt. Buttermilk and paint heart Tomato Red. Use Burnt Umber to add detailing on hats, holly vine next to sugar canister, swirl in bow knot of spoon, and sign hooks. Dot holly berries Tomato Red. Add Lt. Buttermilk highlight shine lines along left sides of each candy cane.
  • 3. Use Lt. Buttermilk to blob heavy snow drips on hats. Use handle end of larger brush to randomly dot Lt. Buttermilk "snowballs" just over snow horizon and on bakery stand. Use old toothbrush or spatter brush to spatter thinned Lt. Buttermilk over entire lid.
  • Finishing
