Materials

  • Papier-mâché letters, 8" tall
  • Grafix Funky Film, two sheets each: Green Bubbles, Emerald Green, Mini Silver Stars, White Sparkle, Cherry Red, Peach Rain, Dark Blue Stars, Royal Blue

Tools

  • Liquitex Modeling Paste
  • Optional: removable adhesive strips

Basic Supplies

  • putty or plastic knife, paper trimmer or scissors, paper towel
  • 1. Cut film into 1/2"-wide strips. Cut strips into 1/2"x1/2" tiles. (Note: Each letter contains tiles of two similar-hue patterns. Keep squares separated.)
  • 2. Beginning at top, spread modeling paste on small area of letter "P" using putty or plastic knife. Smooth paste with back side of knife to avoid leaving ridges. Cover inside openings on "P" and "A" with modeling paste.
  • 3. Apply Green Bubbles tiles to front and sides of letter "P" beginning at top. Continue adding paste and Green Bubbles tiles until letter is half covered. Apply Green Bubbles and Emerald Green tiles randomly to two rows on center of letter "P." Complete letter "P" by applying Emerald Green tiles to remaining areas. Apply Green Bubbles and Emerald Green tiles to sides of "P". Smooth out bumpy edges using fingertip. Remove excess modeling paste using paper towel as needed.
  • 4. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 to cover letter "L" with Mini Silver Stars and White Sparkle tiles, letter "A" with Cherry Red and Peach Rain tiles, and letter "Y" with Dark Blue Stars and Royal Blue tiles. Let dry thoroughly. Display on shelf or hang on wall using removable adhesive strips.
  • Tip
  • 1. Funky Film by Grafix has holographic patterns, so they appear to have a lot of dimension while actually being very thin and lightweight, perfect for a kid's room.
