Materials

  • Diamond Tech Jennifer’s Mosaics Venetian Glass Tile Mixes, 3/8": Grassy Greens, Desert
  • Walnut Hollow Pine Rectangle Plaque, 11"x14"
  • Sawtooth hanger

Tools

  • Paint: ivory spray paint, primer of choice, deep green paint pen
  • Acrylic spray sealant (optional)
  • Weldbond Universal Glue

Basic Supplies

  • computer with printer, hammer and small nails, transfer paper and pencil, ruler, tape
  • 1. Place wood plaque on protected surface; apply coat of primer and let dry. Apply single coat of ivory spray paint; let dry. Separate beige and medium green tiles into piles. Begin laying out border using pattern as guide for color and placement. Line tiles up as close as possible. See Diagram 1.

  • 2. Start from outside of pattern and work toward center. Repeat pattern around perimeter of plaque. When satisfied with design, adhere tiles in place, again working from outside toward center.

  • 3. While mosaic dries, print family name and date from computer. Trim printed paper to fit inside tile border.
  • 4. When glue is completely dry, measure and mark center of plaque. Trim carbon paper to fit inside border. Position trimmed carbon paper, black side down, inside border. Postion printed name on top, face up, and tape into place.

  • 5. Pressing firmly, trace over words with pen or pencil. Remove papers when finished. Fill in outlines of words using paint pen. Let dry completely.

  • 6. Lay plaque face down on soft surface. Measure and mark location of hanger on back of plaque, centered 1" from top. Attach hanger into place.
  • 7. If displaying plaque outside, apply coat of sealant.
