Dry Erase Placemat

Materials

  • Undyed muslin, 17”x12”
  • Clear iron-on vinyl
  • Fabric in color of choice

Tools

  • Brother ScanNCut USA Machine
  • Sewing machine and matching thread

Basic Supplies

  • ruler, iron and pressing surface, rotary cutter or scissors, copy paper
  • 1. Cut two 17"x12" pieces from undyed muslin.
  • 2. Draw designs for placemat on copy paper: outlines to be colored in, tic-tac-toe, letters or numbers to trace, shapes, or other simple games.
  • 3. Scan drawings, shapes, or objects into ScanNCut machine. Use photo scanning mat or low-tack mat for lightweight paper.


  • 4. Place fabric onto standard mat. Align shapes and objects onto mat using "Background Scan" tool.


  • 5. Cut out shapes and iron them onto placemat. Follow manufacturer's directions to apply clear, iron-on vinyl to both sides of placemat.

  • 6. Trim edges and square corners. Finish with binding or sew inside out, turn, and topstitch.
