Materials

  • National Nonwoven WoolFelt: Oakwood, 1 yd.; White, 1/2 yd.; Strawberry Dream, 1/4 yd.; Bright Red, 1/4 yd.; Kelly Green 1/4 yd.; Mellow Yellow, 1/4 yd.; Shocking Pink, 1/4 yd.
  • DMC Dark Brown Embroidery Floss, three skeins
  • Brown sewing thread
  • Chipboard sheet, 8-1/2”x11”, two
  • The Warm Co. Steam-A-Seam 2 Double Stick Fusible Web

Pattern - Felt Gingerbread House

  • 1. Print out full-size patterns. Cut house shapes from felt. Print embellishments on fusible webbing; cut out shapes and fuse to felt following manufacturer's instructions.
  • 2. To assemble walls, position two side walls together and two front and back pieces together. Line up 5" side edge with 5" front and back edge pieces. Hand-sew through all four layers using blanket stitch with three strands of embroidery floss, stopping 1/4" from bottom edge. Hand-sew remaining three corners in same way. Blanket stitch top edge of all four walls.
  • 3. Mark horizontal lines using disappearing ink pen on large White roof. Place long White roof on top of Oakwood roof. Machine-sew along lines marked on White roof. Blanket stitch three sides of roof, leaving one straight edge open.
  • 4. Attach icing embellishment to front and back of house. Center icing and fuse in place using iron. Iron nine 3/8" Strawberry Dream circles onto each icing piece, using photo as reference for placement.
  • 5. Position White arched door 1/4" from bottom front of house centered horizontally; fuse in place. Center Bright Red door on White door with bottom edges aligned; fuse using iron. Temporarily remove fusible webbing from candy canes; add details using photo for reference and press into place. Temporarily remove fusible webbing from circular wreath base. Cover base with overlapping leaves and press. Layer bow piece on top of wreath and press. Place fusible webbing back onto embellishments. Center wreath between icing and door and fuse into place.
  • 6. Attach windows to sides of house and press into place. Center one Oakwood window on top of each White window pieces and press. Center White window frame in each Oakwood piece and press.
  • 7. Working on Oakwood side of roof, press 1-1/8" white circles into each semi-circle space along scalloped edges. Center and press 3/4" Shocking Pink circle on first, third, and fifth white circles. Center and press 3/4" Mellow Yellow circle to remaining white circles. Center and attach White icing roof embellishment on top of Oakwood roof and press. Press 1-1/8" Strawberry Dream circle into each semi-circle space along White scalloped edges. Press Kelly Green gumdrops 1/4" above Strawberry Dream circles. Insert 4 1/2"x7"chipboard pieces into roof and blanket stitch it closed.
  • 8. Position two bottom pieces together. Insert front chipboard between front pieces and line up bottom edge to bottom piece. Blanket stitch through all four layers. Insert chipboard pieces into rectangular walls and blanket stitch to bottom piece. Insert chipboard pieces into back and bottom piece and blanket stitch together.
  • 9. Fold roof in half along center fold line marked on White piece. Hand-sew straight stitch 1/2" from folded edge through four layers. Attach roof to house using blanket stitch on one side.

  • 1. Steam-A-Seam 2 Double Stick Fusible Web is temporary until it's made permanent by ironing.
