Basic Supplies

  • rulers, straight pins, scissors
  • 1. Cut Dark A into one 18-1/2"x23-1/2" rectangle for center. Cut Dark B into eight 5-1/4"xWOF strips for Border 10. Sew all strips together at short edges then sub-cut into two 5-1/4"x65-1/2" rectangles for sides and two 5-1/4"x70" rectangles for top and bottom. Cut Dark C into two 5-1/2"xWOF strips, then sub-cut into eight 5-1/2" squares for Border 6. Cut Dark D into one 5-1/2"xWOF strip, then sub-cut into four 5-1/2" squares for Border 6 corners. Cut Medium A into two 3"xWOF strips for Border 2. Cut Medium B into one 5-1/2"xWOF strip, then sub-cut into six 5-1/2" squares for Border 6. Cut Medium C into eight 2-1/2"xWOF strips for Binding and two 5-1/2"xWOF strips. Subcut wide 5-1/2" strips into eight 5-1/2" squares for Border 6. Cut Solid into thirteen 1-1/2"xWOF strips; sew all strips together at 1-1/2" edge then sub-cut into two 1-1/2"x23-1/2" rectangles for Border 1 sides, two 1-1/2"x20-1/2" rectangles for Border 1 top and bottom, two 1-1/2"x39-1/2" rectangles for Border 4 sides, two 1-1/2"x36-1/2" rectangles for Border 4 top and bottom, two 1-1/2"x59-1/2" rectangles for Border 8 sides, and two 1-1/2"x56-1/2" rectangles for Border 8 top and bottom.
  • 2. Cut Light A into twenty-one 2-1/2"xWOF strips; sew all strips together at 2-1/2" edge then sub-cut into two 2-1/2"x35-1/2" rectangles for Border 3 sides, two 2-1/2"x34-1/2" rectangles for Border 3 top and bottom, two 2-1/2"x41-1/2" rectangles for Border 5 sides, two 2-1/2"x40-1/2" rectangles for Border 5 top and bottom, two 2-1/2"x55-1/2" rectangles for Border 7 sides, two 2-1/2"x54-1/2" rectangles for Border 7 top and bottom, two 2-1/2"x61-1/2" rectangles for Border 9 sides, and two 2-1/2"x60-1/2 rectangles for Border 9 top and bottom. Cut Light B into one 5-1/2"xWOF strip; sub-cut into four 5-1/2" squares for Border 6. Cut Light C into three 5-1/2"xWOF strips; sub-cut into twenty 5-1/2" squares, twelve for Border 2 and eight for Border 6. Cut Light D into two 3"xWOF strips for Border 2.
  • 3. For Border 1, sew the Solid Border 1 sides to each side of the Dark A Center. Sew the Solid Border 1 Top and Bottom to finish at 20-1/2"x25-1/2".
  • 4. For Border 2, sew one Medium A 3" strip to one Light D 3" strip to make a new strip at 5-1/2"xWOF. Make two, then sub-cut into twenty 5-1/2"x3" rectangles. Sew two rectangles together to make a 5-1/2" square 4-Patch. Make 10. Sew pieces together as follows: Sides - Light C - 5-1/2" square, 4-Patch, 4-Patch, 4-Patch, Light C 5-1/2" square to measure 5-1/2"x25-1/2". Make two and sew to each side. Top and Bottom - Light C 5-1/2" square, Light C 5-1/2" square, 4-Patch, 4-Patch, Light C 5-1/2" square, Light C 5-1/2" square to measure 5-1/2"x30-1/2". Make two and sew to top and bottom. Border 2 will measure 30-1/2"x35-1/2". (Note: From this point on, each time you sew a border on, it will be referred to as the "CENTER.")

  • 5. Sew Light A Border 3 Sides onto Center, then sew Light A Border 3 Top and Bottom to measure 34-1/2"x39-1/2". Sew Solid Border 4 Sides onto Center, then sew on Solid Border 4 Top/Bottom to measure 36-1/2"x41-1/2". Sew Light A Border 5 Sides onto Center, then sew on Light A Border 5 Top and Bottom to measure 40-1/2"x45-1/2".
  • 6. For Border 6 sides, sew 5-1/2" squares together as follows to measure 5-1/2"x45-1/2" - Make two: Medium A, Light C, Dark C, Light B, Medium B, Light B, Dark C, Light C, Medium A. Sew one to each side of Center. For top and bottom, sew 5-1/2" squares together as follows to measure 5-1/2"x50-1/2" - Make two: Dark D, Medium A, Light C, Dark C, Medium B, Medium B, Dark C, Light C, Medium A, Dark D. Sew to top and bottom of center to finish Border 6 at 50-1/2"x55-1/2".

  • 7. Sew Light A Border 7 sides to Center, then sew Light A Border 7 top and bottom to measure 54-1/2"x5-1/2". Sew Solid Border 8 sides to Center, then sew Solid Border 8 top and bottom to measure 56-1/2"x61-1/2". Sew Light A Border 9 sides to Center, then sew Light A Border 9 top and bottom to measure 60-1/2"x65-1/2". Sew Dark B Border 10 sides to Center, then sew Dark B Border 10 top and bottom to finish quilt top at 70"x75".
  • 8. Layer backing, batting, and quilt top; quilt as desired. Using Medium C 2-1/2" strips, sew on binding to finish quilt.
