Materials

  • Plain cotton backing fabric, 2/3 yd.
  • Pillow form, 20”x20"
  • Zipper, 15” length
  • Photo in digital format

Tools

  • Computer with photo-editing program (such as Photoshop or Photoshop Elements)
  • Custom Printing Site (Designer used www.spoonflower.com.)
  • Sewing machine with thread

Basic Supplies

  • scissors, straight pins, ruler, iron with pressing surface, pencil, scrap paper
  • 1. Open photo file in photo-editing program. Make any edits or adjustments. (Note: Designer added semi-transparent colored shapes and text.) Crop and resize photo to 150dpi. Fat quarters vary in size by fabric type, but most are 18"x21" plus border. Upload photo to www.spoonflower.com and follow site directions to order fabric.
  • 2. Create 19"x19" template from scrap paper. Using template as pattern, trace and cut 19"x19" square from printed fat quarter. Cut 19"x19" panel from backing fabric. Pin fabric with right sides together; insert zipper into one side. With zipper open, machine-sew around edges using 1/2" seam allowance. Clip corners; turn right side out. Press. Insert pillow form into pillowcase.
