  • Cotton fabric: red, 1/2 yd.; white, 1/3 yd.; red and green charm pack
  • Cotton lining, 1/2 yd.
  • Cotton batting, 1/2 yd.
  • Fiberfill stuffing


  • Sewing machine and matching thread
  • Embroidery needle

Basic Supplies

  • scissors, ruler
  • 1. Cut fabric as follows: forty-nine 2-1/2"x2-1/2" squares from charm pack; forty-two 1"x2-1/2" strips from white cotton; six 1"x18" white cotton strips; 18"x18" cotton batting square, 18"x18" lining fabric square; 18"x18" red fabric square.
  • 2. Position six 1-1/2"x 2-1/2" white cotton pieces between seven 2-1/2"x2-1/2" squares to create horizontal rows, so beginning and end of row is square. Machine-sew pieces together using 1/4" seam allowance. Repeat process for seven rows. Press seam allowances open.
  • 3. Machine-sew 1"x18" white cotton strips horizontally between each row from Step 2 using 1/4" seam allowance. Press seam allowances open.
  • 4. Sandwich cotton batting square between quilted pillow front and lining square. Stitch in the ditch or quilt as desired.
  • 5. Place red pillow back on top of quilted pillow front, right sides together. Machine-sew around edges leaving 5" opening on bottom edge. Clip corners and turn right side out. Stuff pillow with fiberfill stuffing. Hand-sew opening closed using whipstitch.
