Pattern - Santa With Garland Ornament

  • 1. Print and cut out patterns. Cut two pairs of boots from black felt. Use pearl cotton to blanket stitch each pair of boots together
  • 2. For body/head, cut 2"x8" muslin strip and 4-1/2"x8" flannel strip. Sew strips together along one long edge; press seam towards flannel. Fold seamed fabric in half crosswise, matching seam line, and trace body/head pattern with neck line on seam. (Note: Head should be on muslin and body on flannel portion of fabric.) Sew around, leaving bottom open for boots. Cut out 1/8" from seam; clip curves and turn right side out. Stuff firmly. Fold in seam allowance at opening; insert tops of boots. Slip stitch opening closed, catching boots in stitches.
  • 3. For face, sew black (eyes) and red (nose) beads to head as shown. Apply blush to cheeks.
  • 4. For hands, fold muslin scrap in half; trace hand two times. Sew around, leaving open at top of each pair. Cut out 1/8" from seam; turn right side out. Stuff firmly.
  • 5. For arms, fold flannel scrap in half, right sides together, and trace sleeve two times. Sew around, leaving bottom open. Cut out 1/8" from seam line; turn right side out. Fold 1/4" hem at bottom. Lightly stuff top of each sleeve and hand sew gathering stitches around folded edge. Insert top of hand into bottom of sleeve and pull stitches to fit snugly. Glue tops of sleeves to body front, at shoulders.
  • 6. For beard, cut three 1-3/4" lengths from yarn trim; adhere to bottom of face in overlapping rows. For mustache, cut 1/2" length; adhere below nose.
  • 7. For hat, fold flannel scrap in half, right sides together, and trace hat. Sew around, leaving bottom open. Cut out 1/8" from seam line; turn right side out. Lightly stuff hat top. Glue to top of head, angling down at back. For hat brim, glue small strip of plush felt around hat bottom.
  • 8. For garland, cut 7-1/2" length and four 2" lengths from bough. Twist short pieces around garland, spaced 1" apart. Cut five 5" wire lengths. Slide bell onto wire length and twist once around garland in center of one of the short garland pieces. Curl wire ends around skewer; add 6-8 beads to each end. Repeat with three wire lengths. Repeat for remaining wire length; tack to top of hat. Tack garland ends to back of hands.
  • 9. Use pearl cotton to sew button to body front; tie ends in bow. Add small stitch to each boot; tie bow. Add small stitch to top back of hat; leave ends long and tie knot for hanger.
  • Note
  • 1. Sew all seams with right sides of fabric facing, directly on pattern lines, unless otherwise noted, pinning and pressing as needed.
