Materials

  • Dishtowels: beige; brown; turquoise
  • Cotton fabrics: solid scraps: white; black; orange; medium brown; print (scarves), three coordinating of choice
  • Bright pink two-hole button, 9/16”
  • Silver jingle bells, 6mm, six
  • Pearl cotton: white; black
  • Turquoise embroidery floss

Tools

  • Iron-on adhesive
  • Embroidery needle
  • Iron

Pattern - Reindeer, Penguin, & Snowman Towels

  • Reindeer
  • 1. Cut pieces from iron-on adhesive slightly larger than reindeer and scarf. Follow manufacturer's instructions to adhere iron-on adhesive to backs of brown and scarf fabrics. Cut reindeer and scarf from fused fabrics. Remove backing. Fuse reindeer and scarf to center front of brown towel, 2" from bottom.
  • 2. Use one strand black pearl cotton to blanket stitch around outside edges of appliqué pieces.
  • 3. Transfer eye dots, antlers, scarf fringe, and snowflakes to towel. Use one strand black pearl cotton to make French knots on eye dots. Use four strands turquoise floss to stem stitch antlers and scarf fringe. Use one strand white pearl cotton to stem stitch snowflakes and make French knot at end of each snowflake point.
  • 4. Use white pearl cotton to sew button to reindeer at "x" on nose pattern and jingle bell to each snowflake center.
  • Penguin
  • 1. Cut pieces from iron-on adhesive slightly larger than inside and outside areas of body, beak, feet, and scarf. Follow manufacturer's instructions to adhere pieces to backs of white, black, orange, and scarf fabrics. Cut inside and outside areas of penguin's body, beak, feet, and scarf from fused fabrics (cut outside of penguin along dashed lines; cut inside of penguin along dotted line). Remove backing. Fuse pieces and scarf to center front of beige towel, 2" from bottom.
  • 2. Use one strand black pearl cotton to blanket stitch around outside edges of appliqué pieces.
  • 3. Transfer eye dots, scarf fringe, and snowflakes to towel. Use one strand black pearl cotton to make French knots on eye dots. Use one strand black pearl cotton to stem stitch scarf fringe and one strand white pearl cotton to stem stitch snowflakes. Use one strand white pearl cotton to make French knot at each snowflake point.
  • 4. Use white pearl cotton to sew jingle bell to each snowflake center.
  • Snowman
  • 1. Cut pieces from iron-on adhesive slightly larger than body, nose, and scarf. Follow manufacturer's instructions to adhere pieces to backs to white, orange, and scarf fabrics. Cut snowman's body along dashed pattern lines and nose and scarf from fused fabrics. Remove backing. Fuse snowman pieces and scarf to center front of turquoise towel, 2" from bottom.
  • 2. Use one strand black pearl cotton to blanket stitch around outside edges of appliqué pieces.
  • 3. Transfer eye and chest dots, arms, scarf fringe, and snowflakes (without overlapping arm) to towel. Use one strand black pearl cotton to make French knots on eye dots. Use one strand black pearl cotton to stem stitch scarf fringe. Use one strand white pearl cotton to make French knot at each snowflake point.
  • 4. Use white pearl cotton to sew jingle bell to each snowflake center.

  • 1. Print and cut out patterns. For French knot, wrap one strand floss around needle four times.
