Needle-Felted Ducky Album

  • Needle-Felted Ducky Album


  • White wool felt, 1/4 yd.
  • Wool roving, small amounts: lt. blue; lt. yellow; dk. yellow; orange; pink
  • Pink/white stripe grosgrain ribbon, 5/8”-wide, 14” lengths, two
  • Black bead, 3/16”
  • Single thickness chipboard, 6” squares, two
  • Embroidery floss: bright pink; soft blue
  • Yellow craft thread
  • Papers: white paper or cardstock, 12”x12”, six sheets; lt. blue patterned heavyweight


  • Sewing thread: black; white
  • Circle punches: 1/4”; 1-1/2”
  • Fabric glue
  • Needles: felting; embroidery; sewing
  • Large felting mat
  • Sewing machine

Pattern - Needle-Felted Ducky Album

  • Size
  • 1. Size is 6-1/4"x6-1/4".
  • Note
  • 1. To needle felt, pull off small piece of wool roving, Twist strands slightly so edges are smooth, and place on felt to form outline of shape, punching with needle tool until shape lies flat. Continue adding wool roving to fill in shape.
  • Ducky Album
  • 1. Cut two 6-3/4"x13-1/4" rectangles from white felt. Print and cut out pattern. Transfer designs lightly to one felt rectangle with edges of design 3/8" from top, bottom and right side edges.
  • 2. Use three strands pink floss to stem stitch "Ducky".
  • 3. To needle felt duck, work lt. yellow wool roving into duck shape, dk. yellow across bottom of duck shape, orange into beak shape, small amount of pink into cheek circle, small amounts of blue into thin pieces for water lines. Use black thread to sew bead to eye dot.
  • 4. Glue 6" white card stock squares to both sides of chipboard. Glue chipboard squares to wrong side of felt rectangle with ducky design, leaving 3/8" of felt showing all the way around edge. (Note: There will be 1/2" of felt showing in center between chipboard squares.) Glue 2" of ribbon ends to center of chipboard sides so ribbon extends out at sides for ties. Glue remaining side of chipboard squares to plain felt rectangle.
  • 5. Use three strands blue floss to blanket stitch around felt book cover edges.
  • 6. For pages, cut ten 6"x12" rectangles. Stack rectangles and machine sew vertically through center, using longest stitch sewn over twice. Fold pages along stitched line.
  • 7. Place pages inside open cover with stitching on pages at center of cover. Sew over same stitches again to join pages to cover. Close album and tie ribbon into bow.
  • 8. For tag, print message on blue paper. Punch 1-1/2" circle around words. Punch 1/4" hole in top of circle. Attach yellow thread to tag and through ribbon on album. Knot thread ends together.
