Sock Penguin Ornament

  • Boy’s black small sock
  • Felt: black; white; fuchsia
  • Lime green feather craft boa
  • Woodsies: triangle (beak), 3/4”x1”; stars (feet), 1-5/8”, two (Forster)
  • Americana Acrylic Paint: Pumpkin (DecoArt)
  • Medium blue pom-pom, 1/2”
  • Black glass E beads (eyes), 6/0, two
  • White cardstock


  • Paintbrush
  • Medium blue embroidery floss
  • Black pearl cotton
  • Fiberfill stuffing
  • Blue eyelet, 3/16”
  • Hole punch, 3/16”
  • Fabri-Tac Permanent Adhesive (Beacon Adhesives)
  • Embroidery needle
  • Computer with printer

Pattern - Sock Penguin Ornament

  • 1. For body, cut sock 4-1/2" from toe. Fill with polyester stuffing. Sew running stitch around cut end of sock close to edge; pull tightly to gather and knot for top of head.
  • 2. Print and cut out patterns. Cut materials as indicated. Glue inner body to sock body. Use three strands floss to blanket stitch edge.
  • 3. Wrap pearl cotton tightly around sock and knot for neck indentation.
  • 4. To sew eyes to face, insert needle through back of penguin where it will be covered by scarf.
  • 5. Glue straight edges of wings to top body sides.
  • 6. Tie feather boa scarf around neck. Print "warmest wishes" on white cardstock; cut into tag shape. Punch hole in tag; attach eyelet. Use pearl cotton to attach tag to right side of scarf.
  • 7. Thread pearl cotton onto needle. Insert needed through gathering on top of hat to attach thread to hat. Knot thread ends together for hanger. Glue pom-pom to hat.
  • 8. Paint beak and feet Pumpkin. Glue beak to face and feet to body.

  • 1. Use pearl cotton for all sewing.
