size: 5" diameter

  • Stitched Hair Ties

  • Homespun fabric, 4”x22” strip
  • Elastic, 7” length
  • Black craft thread

  • Large-eye sewing needle
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Straight pin
  • Safety pin
  • 1. Measure and cut 4"x22" fabric strip.
  • 2. To make tube shape, use needle and thread to sew short ends of fabric strip together, 1/4" from edges.
  • 3. Fold strip in half lengthwise, with seam on inside. Sew along long edges, leaving 2" for opening (to insert elastic).
  • 4. Measure and cut 7" elastic length. Attach safety pin on end of elastic. Insert safety pin with elastic in opening on stitched tube; work safety pin through tube. Remove safety pin.
  • 5. Sew elastic ends together. Sew opening on fabric tube closed.
  • 6. Use straight pin to gently pull threads on fabric, creating slightly frayed look.
