Pattern - Illustrations

  • Velvet Pillow
  • 1. Cut two 10" squares from velvet.
  • 2. With liquid stitch, glue 2-1/2"-wide green ribbon down center of one square. Let dry.
  • 3. With liquid stitch, glue green/gold trim approximately 1" from either side of center ribbon. Let dry.
  • 4. Pin velvet squares, right sides together. Sew around all four sides, leaving an opening for turning right side out.
  • 5. Clip corners; turn right side out.
  • 6. Stuff pillow with Wonder-Loft.
  • 7. Slip stitch opening closed.
  • 8. With doublesided satin ribbon, make three ribbon bows. Apply Fray Check to ends to prevent fraying.
  • 9. With liquid stitch, glue bows to pillow as shown.
  • Victorian Lace Bolster Pillow
  • 1. (Note: Use 1/4" seam allowance throughout. Velvet will "move" if sewn, so use Fabri-Tac to adhere lace and ribbon pieces to velvet.)
  • 2. Cut: two 12-1/4"x20-3/4" rectangles from rose brocade; 6-1/2"x12-1/4" rectangle from purple velvet; two 12"x20-1/2" rectangles from muslin; 2-1/4"x25" bias piece from purple print.
  • 3. For pillow front, apply strip of Fabri-Tac along both sides of 2-5/8"-wide antique ribbon and adhere to center of purple velvet. Let dry. Glue 2-1/2"-wide antique lace, along both edges of velvet as shown. Let dry. Sew lacey edges of lace down with matching thread. Glue 1/2"-wide trim over edge of velvet and lace edges, covering seams.
  • 4. For piping, use zipper foot, matching thread and purple bias fabric to cover cording, sewing along cording edge. Position and pin piping to pillow front, raw edges matching, and use zipper foot to sew purple piping to each side of pillow front. Hand sew beaded trim to sides of pillow on top of piping. Be sure beaded part is toward center of pillow. With zipper foot and right sides together, sew pillow front to back, leaving an opening for turning. Be sure beaded trim is out of the way of sewing needle. (Note: Use tape to secure beads away from seams.) Trim corners; turn right side out.
  • 5. For pillow insert, sew two 12"x20-1/2" muslin rectangles together, leaving an opening for turning right side out. Stuff pillow. Sew opening closed with matching thread. Stuff velvet pillow by folding pillow insert in half and then pushing corners into corners of pillow cover. Slip stitch opening closed with matching thread.
