Pattern - Felted Owls

  • 1. Print and cut out patterns. Cut two body pieces from sweater scraps. Place pieces right sides together; pin. Machine sew around edge staring at base of one side, make continuous seam up side, around top of head and back down other side ending at base of opposite side. Leave entire base open. Trim away any excess wool at ears and turn body right side out. Stuff owl, making sure ears are well stuffed.
  • 2. Cut wing/bead from contrasting felted wool. Drape head section of wing down over top of owl head aligning ear points together. Pin pointed beak to face. Use matching thread to hand sew wing to body. Begin stitching at owl's shoulder, then up around one ear down across beak and up around remaining ear ending at opposite shoulder. Do not sew wingtips so they are moveable.
  • 3. Cut tail and light colored stomach panel. Tuck top of tail under center back of wings; pin and hand stitch in place catching middle of wings in stitches to anchor them in place. Pin stomach panel to front of owl lining bottom edges together; hand sew in place.
  • 4. Cut two 2" outer eye circles from felted scraps. Cut 1-1/2" circle from another scrap, and cut in half for eyelids. Use full strand of floss and darning needle to blanket stitch outer eyes to face. Switch floss colors and sew buttons to eye centers. Use thread to sew eyelids to tops of eyes. Use darning needle and floss to blanket stitch along lash line of eyelids.
  • 5. Cut base pattern pieces. Invert owl and slip stone into body and place base piece over stone. Sew base piece to base of owl.
