  • 1. Attach ball to pointed end of cone and secure with toothpicks.
  • 2. Flatten a dime size ball of clay. Apply to ball and let dry. Do not cover entire Ball (just enough for face portion).
  • 3. Needle felt red roving to cone.
  • 4. To create arms, needle felt red roving into two 3"x1/2" long log shapes. Use sheet scrap as base to create arms, needle felting and shaping roving. Needle felt one arm to each side of Santa, starting at the neck, and ending at waist.
  • 5. Cut Natural felt into 1/4"-wide strips and needle felt as trim for coat (down front, and around bottom edge).
  • 6. Cut a 1-1/2" square from Natural felt, wrap around ends of arms, creating a muff. Needle felt arms into muff. Needle felt both to body/coat.
  • 7. Cut a 1/4"-long strip from Black. Wrap around waist, trim, and needle felt in place. Create a small buckle with black felt (square) and glue in place.
  • 8. Paint clay face of Santa with flesh. Create eyes with two dots of black (use pencil or end of paintbrush to create dots). Highlight each eye with speck of cream. Make a small mark with red with liner brush for mouth. Insert red ball straight pin into face for nose.
  • 9. To create hood, pull apart a golf ball size amount of red roving. Place on sheet scrap and needle felt, creating a 4"x6" piece of material. Place hood pattern onto material and cut.
  • 10. Place hood onto head of Santa and needle felt in place.
  • 11. Needle felt thin wisps of natural roving around the hood of Santa. Needle felt small amounts of natural roving for beard. Roll a small thin wisp of natural roving into mustache shape and glue under nose of Santa.
  • 12. Tuck a small amount of natural roving under hood above forehead. Tuck greenery and berries inside muff.
  • Note
  • 1. Needle felting is quick and easy. It requires a special felting needle that has extremely sharp barbs along the tip of the needle. The higher the needle number, the finer the needle, resulting in a smaller hole in the project. When the needle is pushed into STYROFOAM, the barbs pull the wool roving locking them together in place. As a result, no glue is needed.
