  • Black permanent fine-tip marker
  • White dimensional paper paint
  • Clay-dedicated pasta machine or lucite roller
  • Glass baking dish
  • Toothpicks
  • Small craft brush
  • Glass, Metal, & More Glue (Beacon Adhesives)

  • Dog bone cookie cutter

Pattern - Doggie Bone & Kitty Cane Ornaments

  • General
  • 1. Print and cut out patterns. Follow manufacturer's instructions to condition clay before beginning.
  • Doggie Bone
  • 1. Mix marble-size ball of white with half block of copper. Take 1/3 of mixed clay; add another marble-size ball of white. Run clay through pasta machine or roll flat to 1/4" thickness.
  • 2. Use cookie cutter to cut bone from lighter clay. Use toothpicks to make holes in both ends for hanger. From darker clay, cut four small ovals for ears and paws and one large oval for head. Roll small ball of red; flatten and draw line down center for tongue.
  • 3. Roll long string of white clay for candy cane base. Roll small white and red strings; twist around base, alternating colors. Bend into letters of dog's name, trimming as necessary; press letters onto bottom of clay bone.
  • 4. Place tongue onto letter and over top of bone. Press paws onto flat of bone; press head over tongue and paws. Mark paws, muzzle, and bone with toothpick. Press ears in place as shown.
  • 5. Cut small black oval for nose, press onto face. Roll two small white and two smaller black balls for eyes; press white balls onto face and black balls over white.
  • 6. Place ornament on baking sheet. Use brush to apply gold pigment powder to bone and doggie parts. Follow manufacturer's instructions to bake; let cool.
  • 7. Use white paint to add dots around bone and highlight on nose; let dry. Apply glaze; let dry.
  • 8. For hanger, cut 5" wire length; insert into one end of bone. Curl wire as shown; insert free end into other end of bone.
  • Kitty Cane
  • 1. For candy cane base, roll 6" long white string. Roll small white and red strings; twist around base, alternating colors until 1/4" thick. Cut ends; curl one end around to form top of candy cane. Place on baking dish.
  • 2. Run silver clay through pasta machine on largest setting, or roll flat to 1/4" thickness; cut out large oval for face. Cut two small ovals for paws and two small triangles for ears.
  • 3. Mix pinch of red with marble-size ball of white for light pink. Roll small balls for nose and tongue. Flatten tongue and draw line down center; press onto bottom of face. Cut two small triangles for inside ears; press into silver ear pieces.
  • 4. Mix pea-size ball of white with same amount of silver for muzzle. Flatten and cut out two small ovals; press on face above tongue and use toothpick to mark dots. Press nose onto muzzle. Roll two small white and two smaller black balls for eyes; press white balls onto face and black balls over white. Press ears to top of head.
  • 5. Press paws onto candy cane as shown; mark lines with toothpick. Press head onto candy cane between paws. Use brush to apply silver pigment powder to face and paws. Follow manufacturer's instructions to bake; let cool.
  • 6. Use white paint to add dot to tip of nose; let dry. Use black marker to write name and add lines and dots around cat and paws. Apply glaze; let dry.
  • 7. Paint wooden sign gold; let dry. Use white paint to draw squiggles around edge. Glue onto paw and candy cane.
  • 8. For hanger, loop ribbon and adhere ends to top back of ornament.
