Materials

  • Polyform Sculpey: Clay Conditioning Machine, Super Slicer, Style and Detail Tools, Etch ‘n Pearl Tools, Clay Tool Starter Set, Graduated Diamond Cutters, Mini Nature Metal Cutters, Clear Gloss Glaze
  • Pearl mica powder
  • Parchment-lined baking sheet and oven
  • Silicone adhesive

Basic Supplies

  • toothpicks, paintbrush
  • 1. Condition 1/2 package of Pistachio and form into thick log. Press four thin strips each of Turnip and Jade along edges of Pistachio log. Set aside.

  • 2. Shape scrap clay into 1 1/2" cube. Push toothpick down into top of cube, leaving 1" sticking out for head. Push two toothpicks into bottom area of sides, leaving 1-1/4" sticking out for legs.

  • 3. Add two more toothpicks at angles into top area of sides, leaving 1-1/4" sticking out for arms. Pre-bake cube with toothpicks for 30 minutes at 275° F. Let cool.

  • 4. Run Poppyseed through clay conditioning machine on thickest setting. Cut 1 1/2"-wide strips. Line short edge of strip up to one arm and leg toothpicks. Gently press and wrap around to other side. Trim clay close to opposite arm and leg toothpicks. Repeat so sides are wrapped in Poppyseed. Cut top and bottom piece from Poppyseed and press into place. Smooth seams.

  • 5. Run Robin's Egg through clay conditioning machine on fourth thickest setting. Cut out seven pointed stars. Press stars over Poppyseed cube bending them around corners as needed. Set aside.

  • 6. Run Jade and Turnip through clay conditioning machine on fourth thickest setting. Cut three 1" diamonds and three 1-1/2" diamonds from Jade. Repeat with Turnip. Layer diamonds. Position diamonds around head toothpick for elf's collar. Push into place with 12mm ball tool. Bend tips of collar pieces over box edges.

  • 7. Roll and twist striped log from Step 1 into an 8" long rope. Cut off 1" piece from rope. Compress cut piece between thumb and finger to make it shorter and fatter. Push down onto head toothpick so it sits just on top of collar pieces.

  • 8. Roll 1-1/4" Beige ball. Press in two eye dents using the 12mm ball tool. Form little Beige triangle and place between eyes. Smooth seams and eye dents. Use flat tool to form mouth. Carve smile on either side of mouth using knife tool. Round out tips of smile lines with 2mm ball tool. Slightly pinch a chin below mouth using fingers.

  • 9. Impress eye sockets with 6mm ball tool. Set medium-sized Poppyseed eyes into sockets with medium Etch 'N Pearl.

  • 10. Push head onto top toothpick and place it on top of neck. Flatten little pancake of Pumpkin and cover back of head.

  • 11. Add little Pumpkin eyebrows. Shape teardrops from Beige and place on sides of head for ears. Indent ears with 6mm ball tool. Roll Pumpkin into long thin rope. Cut short lengths and place them on head for hair.

  • 12. Run Poppyseed through clay conditioning machine on thickest setting. Double sheet and cut out square for box top. Cover square with stars as you did in Step 4. Bend stars around edges and trim. Dust all stars with pearl mica powder. Indent stars with 6mm ball tool. Set Turnip and Jade pearls into the divots in stars with small Etch 'N Pearl.

  • 13. Place box top on elf's head and gently press into place. Cut two 1.5" lengths from striped rope from Step 8 for arms. Push arms gently onto toothpicks until they connect with box. Cut 2" lengths from same striped rope and push onto remaining toothpicks for legs.

  • 14. Roll two 3/8" Beige balls; flatten them into little teardrops for hands and add tiny teardrop thumbs.

  • 15. Cut out four seven-pointed stars: two Jade and two Turnip. Put one of each color at wrists and ankles. Push hole into each wrist with rubber pointed chisel. Gently push a hand into each wrist hole.

  • 16. For feet, make two 1.5" pointed teardrops from Turnip and Jade. Push divot in wide part of teardrop with 12mm ball tool. Bend up pointy end. Roll small Beige ankle and put it in the divot. Push ankle and shoe onto the end of each leg.

  • 17. Bake at 275°F for 30 minutes. When elf is completely cool, adhere onto bare stocking holder. Paint eyes with clear glossy glaze. Let dry completely before displaying.
