Pattern - Forest Friends Hanging Frames

  • 1. Print out full-size patterns. Use same body and arm/front leg patterns for all animals. Use same tail pattern for fox and raccoon. Condition all clay with hands until soft and pliable.
  • 2. For fox body, roll Cadmium Red clay oval; flatten slightly. Position on pattern to size. Roll small White oval, flatten, and press onto chest. Roll small Cadmium Red oval for face, flatten, and place on pattern to size. Pinch bottom edge of oval to create muzzle. Roll and flatten two small White teardrops; press onto face with points toward nose. Roll two Cadmium Red triangle ears and two smaller Beige inner ears; press together and smooth ears to top of head. Flatten Cadmium Red teardrop for tail; place on pattern to size. Press White clay onto tail tip. Make small strokes on fox for fur using needle tool. Roll four Black legs; press two on sides of fox and two on front. Roll small Black balls for nose and eyes; press on face. Roll two White and two smaller Black balls for eyes and pupils; press in place. Add small White accent to nose. Gently press tail to back of body.
  • 3. For raccoon, condition mixture of Rhino Gray + Black for dark gray color. Follow body and head directions in Step 2 using dark gray clay; add fur texture using needle tool. Roll two small Black ovals for mask and follow eye and pupil directions in Step 2; press all onto face. Make tail as in Step 2 using dark gray clay; widen slightly. Roll three Black strings for strips; press into place. Add fur texture using needle tool. Roll slightly larger dark gray arms and legs; press onto body. Add fur texture as before.
  • 4. Make bunny body as in Step 2 using Ecru for body and White for tummy; add fur texture. Roll Ecru oval for head and two long thin ovals for ears. Roll smaller Beige inner ears; press onto ears. Add fur texture to face and ears; press ears onto head. Roll and flatten two White balls for cheeks; press onto face and mark each with three holes using needle tool. Roll small Beige ball for nose, two tiny Black balls for eyes; press onto face. Roll larger Ecru logs for four legs; press onto body and texture as before.
  • 5. Bake animals following manufacturer's instructions; let cool before removing from oven. Cut strips of grass from Green clay and mark with grass texture using cutting tool. Press strips on animals as shown; trim away any excess.
  • 6. For trees, roll and flatten Burnt Umber clay. Cut out tree pattern, place on clay sheet, and cut out three trees using cutting tool. Position trees on baking sheet, reversing direction of one tree. Add bark texture using needle tool. Cut additional strips of grass as before; press onto base of trees. Roll small Jungle balls and flatten into leaves; press onto branches.
  • 7. For birds, roll three Cobalt Blue balls. Form one side into point; pinch for tail. Roll three tiny Cobalt Blue ovals for wing; press onto bodies. With two birds facing one direction and remaining bird opposite, make small Sunshine beak for each; press onto face. Mark eyes with needle tool; press one bird onto one branch of each tree.
  • 8. For mushrooms, roll Ecru log stems. Roll Cadmium Red cones; shape into mushroom caps. Make small hole in base of cap; press stem into hole. Roll tiny White balls; press onto caps. Press mushrooms onto tree bases near grasses. Add additional grass strips as desired. Bake all clay pieces again as in Step 5.
  • 9. Paint bottom of frames Apple Green; let dry. Paint grass texture Turf Green using side of brush. Paint area above grass Soft Jade; swirl in Cotton Ball clouds. Let dry thoroughly. Adhere clay elements to frames as shown.
  • Tip
  • 1. To embellish one single larger-size frame, add all three animals to the same frame. Enlarge size of tree, adding more branches.
