Pattern - Joy Candy Cane Ornament

  • 1. Follow manufacturer's instructions to condition clay. Roll a portion of Ultra Light clay into a 1/2"-wide, 2"-long log. Roll all three clay colors into 1/8"-wide, 4"-long strings; cut in half. Place strings around clay log lengthwise, alternating Fluorescent Red, White, and Green. Roll on cardstock to even out log.
  • 2. Reduce log size by rolling, twisting, and gently pulling until it measures 6" long. It can be longer or shorter, depending upon how large you want letters. Twisting creates candy cane look.
  • 3. Print and cut out pattern. Trace pattern onto cardstock. Place on baking dish. Cut lengths of candy cane and place on pattern, making sure letters touch.
  • 4. Use needle-nose cutters to cut two 1/2" wire lengths for loops. Press one loop into top of "J" and remaining loop into "Y".
  • 5. Flatten a portion of Green clay and use craft knife to use out five leaves. Make veins on leaves. Press leaves onto letters. Place one leaf on "J", two at bottom of "O", and two at "Y" junction.
  • 6. Press three seed beads onto "J" leaf, two onto "O" leaves, and three onto "Y" leaves.
  • 7. Use craft brush to apply pigment powder to leaves.
  • 8. Follow manufacturer's instructions to bake clay. Let cool; remove from oven.
  • 9. Add Dazzle-Tac® dot to back of ornament where letters join; let dry.
  • 10. Use brush to apply Satin Glaze to ornament; let dry.
  • 11. Use needle-nose cutters to cut and curl 4" wire length. Attach ends to ornament loops.
