  • Small paintbrush
  • Matte varnish
  • Clay-dedicated items: pasta machine or acrylic brayer; cutting board and craft knife; parchment-lined baking sheet
  • Rounded edge craft tool
  • Wire
  • Aluminum foil
  • Oven
  • 1. For bird's body, use foil to make 4"-long cone shape that's 1-1/2" thick at widest end. For head, use foil to roll cherry-sized ball. (Note: Use artificial bird as guide to shape foil.)
  • 2. Cut 1" wire length; insert one end into thickest part of body (sticking up) and remaining end into head.
  • 3. Follow manufacturer's instructions to condition clay. Roll out scrap clay to 4mm thickness and wrap over entire body and head. Use craft tool to smooth all edges and create a smooth base.
  • 4. Mix white and pink clay to make very pale pink. Roll and cover bird in same way as Step 3.
  • 5. For beak, roll very small amount of pale pink clay into cone.
  • 6. Use dry paint brush to apply some white pigment powder. Use pink pigment powder to highlight beak, breast and tail.
  • 7. For eyes, roll two very tiny black clay balls. Press onto face as shown.
  • 8. Use point of feather or craft tool to push hole into tail so feather may be glued after baking.
  • 9. Follow manufacturer's instructions to bake birds. Let cool. Apply varnish.
  • 10. Adhere crystals to birds and birds to bowl. Fill bowl with water and flowers for a tranquil table setting.
