Afternoon Tea Necklace

Materials

  • Peach/cream pressed glass rounded triangles, 17mm, 19
  • Cream glass rounds, 3mm, 33
  • Peach luster opaque seed beads, size 11, 14
  • Gold-plated figaro chain, 35” length
  • Gold beading wire, 16” length
  • Gold-plated findings: headpins, 2”, seven; jump rings, 4mm, 10, 6mm, two; crimp tubes, two; lobster clasp

Tools

  • Jewelry pliers: chain-nose, two; round-nose, crimping
  • Wire cutters
  • Bead board (optional)

Basic Supplies

  • ruler
  • 1. Make dangle by sliding pressed glass triangle onto headpin with pointed end first, followed by seed bead, cream bead, and seed bead. Make simple loop to close securely. Repeat to make seven dangles total.
  • 2. Cut chain into six 5-1/2" lengths. (Note: Figaro chain has three small links and one long link. When cutting, make sure pieces are identical.) Attach ends of three pieces to 4mm jump ring; close and add 6mm jump ring. Repeat for other side of necklace, adding clasp onto 6mm jump ring.
  • 3. Pass end of beading wire through crimp tube, 4mm jump ring from Step 2, and back through crimp tube. Crimp tube to secure; trim wire end.
  • 4. (Note: In beaded necklace portion, 4mm jump rings serve as spacers and must be closed securely.) String cream bead, jump ring, cream bead, pressed glass bead with pointed end first, cream bead, jump ring, cream bead, pressed glass bead with rounded end first, cream bead, jump ring, cream bead, pressed glass with pointed end first onto beading wire.
  • 5. Continue stringing by adding cream bead, dangle, cream bead, pressed glass bead with round end first. Continue stringing dangle section in same pattern, reversing direction of pressed glass beads each time and placing dangle between cream beads until all dangles are used.
  • 6. Repeat Step 4, continuing in reverse direction of pressed glass beads each time and ending with cream bead, jump ring, cream bead combination. Pass end of beading wire through crimp tube, 4mm jump ring at open end of chain, and back through crimp tube. Crimp tube to secure; trim wire end.

  • 1. When making a necklace with beads turned in different directions, lay out the design first on a beading board.
