Pattern - Embellished Felt Box

  • Note
  • 1. When adhering felt to box, pinch seams together to hide cardboard and achieve smooth joints. Use awl to create crisp corners.
  • Felt Box
  • 1. Print out full-size patterns. To create box and lid, cut and score cardboard as directed on patterns. Fold along score lines, tucking flaps toward inside; adhere with 3-in-1 glue.
  • 2. Adhere batting to center of outer box lid using Fabri-Tac.
  • 3. Cut 9"x9" Apple Green felt square; baste flannel square to center of square.
  • 4. Transfer embroidery pattern to center front with fabric marker.
  • 5. Cut two 3/4" circles from Bright Lilac felt; stack and pin on design center. Using 1-strand Mystical Midnight, stitch 8-spoke spiderweb over felt circles. (Note: Use tapestry needle for smoother weaving when "whipping" the spokes of the spiderweb.) Stitch beads in place with beading thread.
  • 6. Couch Memory Threads in place with single strand of coordinating floss: Green Memory Thread/Emerald Green-DK floss, Purple Memory Thread/Grape-DK floss, Light Green Memory Thread/Parrot Green floss.
  • 7. Using one strand of Mystical Midnight, finish design with running stitch "rays."
  • 8. Use pattern to cut felt for box lid from embroidered panel. Center needlework over batting; adhere with Fabri-Tac. Adhere remaining felt to box lid with Fabri-Tac, tucking ends inside lid.
  • 9. Cut 2-5/8" square from Bright Lilac felt; adhere inside box lid with Fabri-Tac.
  • 10. Use pattern to cut felt for box bottom from Apple Green felt; adhere to box bottom with Fabri-Tac, tucking ends inside box.
  • 11. Cut 2-1/2" square panel from Bright Lilac; adhere inside box bottom with Fabri-Tac.
  • Tip
  • 1. Stitching whipped spiderweb on stacked felt circles creates a more prominent raised design.
