Materials

  • Vintage or new dominoes
  • Hanna Layering Papers (Hero Arts)
  • Natural leather cord, 1mm
  • Designer glass beads (Hirschberg Schultz)
  • Synthetic aged bone beads, 3/4” (Tandy Leather Company)
  • Natural Elegance bead mix (Blue Moon Beads)
  • Antique brass findings: jump rings; head pins, 1-1/2”; earring wire
  • Deep gold metallic rub-ons (Craf-T Products)

Tools

  • Botanical clear stamps (rubberstamptapestry.com)
  • Black ink pad
  • Oak Gel Stain (DecoArt)
  • Perfect Crackle Steps 1 & 2 (DecoArt)
  • Matte Acrylic Sealer (DecoArt)
  • Crafter’s Pick The Ultimate! Glue (API)
  • Jewelry tools: round-nose pliers; wire cutters
  • Electric drill with 1/16” bit
  • Pearl Bead Necklace
  • 1. Rub gold on side and back of domino. Cut rectangle from paper to fit inside front raised edge of domino. Use black ink to stamp botanical image. Brush glue on back of rectangle and adhere to front of domino. Follow manufacturer's instructions to apply crackle medium to paper rectangle. Let dry. Brush stain on top of crackle and wipe off excess. Apply sealer to front, back and sides of domino. Let dry.
  • 2. Drill holes in top corners and center bottom of domino.
  • 3. Thread a 10" cord length through bottom hole. Insert jump ring through both ends of cord and tie knot around jump ring under domino. Trim ends 1/4" past knot.
  • 4. Place large pearl bead on head pin. Trim head pin 1/2" past bead. Bend end of head pin over slightly, insert through hump ring on knot and bend end over until it touches top of bead.
  • 5. Thread 32" length of cord through one of top holes in domino with ends even. Place three small beads on front end of cord. Knot both ends of cord together above beads. Repeat for opposite side of domino.
  • 6. Insert jump ring through both ends of cord on one side of necklace and make knot around jump ring, 7-1/2" from first knot. Attach a large pearl bead to jump ring in same way as Step 4.
  • 7. Make a loop in both ends of cord on opposite side of necklace and tie a knot in cord to secure loop. (Note: Loop should be same length as bead on opposite side.) Trim cords ends 1/2" past knot.
  • Glass Bead Necklace
  • 1. Rub gold on front, back and sides of domino. Follow manufacturer's instructions to apply crackle medium to front of domino. Let dry. Brush stain on top of crackle and wipe off excess. Apply sealer to front, back and sides of domino. Let dry.
  • 2. Drill holes in top corners and center bottom of domino.
  • 3. Insert earring wire through hole in bottom of domino. Trim end of wire as needed and attach to wrapped part of earring wire.
  • 4. Place glass bead on head pin. Trim end of head pin 1/2" past bead. Bend end of head pin over slightly, insert through bottom loop on earring wire and bend end over until it touches top of bead.
  • 5. Insert 32" cord length through one of top domino holes with ends even. Knot both ends of cord together at side of domino. Repeat for opposite side.
  • 6. Insert jump ring through both ends of cord on one side of necklace and tie knot around jump ring 7-1/2" from first knot. Attach glass bead to jump ring in same way as Step 4.
  • 7. Make a loop in both ends of cord on opposite side of necklace and tie a knot in cord to secure loop. (Note: Loop should be same length as bead on opposite side.) Trim cords ends 1/2" past knot.
  • Bamboo Bead Bracelet
  • 1. Follow Step 1 of Pearl Bead Necklace.
  • 2. Drill holes in four corners of domino. Cut four 40" cord lengths. Thread cord through domino holes with ends even.
  • 3. On one side of domino, insert cord ends going through a bamboo bead going in both directions. Pull cord taught so it lays flat against side of domino. Repeat two more times attaching three bamboo beads to side of domino. Make a knot centered above beads. Repeat for opposite side of domino.
  • 4. Determine desired length of bracelet around wrist. On one side of bracelet, knot cord pieces at desired length, insert cord ends through bead going in both directions and make knot on top of bead. Trim cord ends 1/2" past knot.
  • 5. Make loop in ends of cord on opposite side of bracelet and tie a knot to secure loop. (Note: Loop should be same lengths as bead on opposite side.) Trim cord ends 1/2" past knot.
