Basic Supplies

  • ruler
  • 1. On clean work surface, remove clay from packages and run each color through clay conditioning machine on #1 setting several times. Mix two parts Sunshine with one part Blush for light orange clay.
  • 2. Use slicer to cut 7/8" length pieces from Blush, Sunshine, Turquoise, Ultramarine Blue Hue, and light orange clays. Hold edges of lengths and gently bend upward, creating curve. Repeat process, creating 12 tulip shapes.
  • 3. Run double-layer sheet of Spanish Olive clay through clay conditioning machine. Trim sheet and cut approximately twelve 1/4" lengths (for leaves).
  • 4. Use head pin to poke hole through center of each tulip and each leaf.
  • 5. Follow manufacturer's instructions to bake pieces on parchment-lined baking sheet in oven. Let cool.
  • 6. Assemble head pins as follows: two green beads, clay leaf, one green bead, clay tulip, variety of beads as desired. Repeat process, creating 12 beaded head pins.
  • 7. Position gold chain on work surface. Attach head pins randomly to gold chain by forming loop on end using round-nose pliers. Trim head pins using wire cutters if needed.
  • Tip
  • 1. This project is a great way to use your scrap clays. Vary your tulip colors based on the clay you have available.
