Crocheted Roses

Here are two different ways to crochet a rose to embellish your yarn projects!

small rose, 1½”; large rose, 3”; circle rose, 2-2½”

materials

  • Worsted weight yarn

tools

  • Crochet hook size “I” 5.50 mm 
  • Tapestry needle

basic supplies

  • Scissors

ABBREVIATIONS

  • beg = beginning 
  • ch = chain 
  • sc = single crochet 
  • hdc = half double crochet 
  • dc = double crochet 
  • sts = stitches 
  • sl st = slip stitch 
  • tr = triple crochet

1. Ch 36, dc 5 sts in fourth ch from hook, sl st in next ch.  Repeat until you have five dc petals.   

2. Hdc 5 sts in 14th ch, sl st in next ch. Repeat until you have five hdc petals.

3. Sc 5 sts into next ch, sl st in next chain. Repeat until you have five sc petals. Leave 8-10” tail. Starting from the smallest petals, roll up and sew rose together.

1. Ch 64, tr in fourth ch from hook. Make six more tr into same stitch and sl st in next ch. Repeat until you have five petals. 

2. Dc 5 sts in next ch and sl st in next ch. Repeat until you have five petals.

3. Hdc 5 sts in next ch and sl st in next ch. Repeat until you have five petals. Leave 12-18” tail. Starting from the smallest petals, roll up and sew rose together.

1. For large circle, ch 6, sl st to form ring. Ch 4 (this will count as the first tr). Tr 23 sts into the ring, sl st in top of beg ch 4.

2. For medium circle, ch 5, sl st to form ring. Ch 3 (this will count as the first dc). Dc 17 sts into the ring, sl st in top of beg ch 3.

3. For small circle, ch 4, sl st to form ring. Ch 2 (this will count as the first hdc). Hdc 11 sts into the ring, sl st in top of beg ch 2.

4. Weave in ends of all circles. Layer smallest to biggest and sew all three circles together to form flower.

1. Ch 11, sc into second ch from hook, work following stitches to end of row: hdc, dc, dc, tr, tr, tr, dc, hdc, sc.

2. Leave a long tail, fasten off and weave in ends.
