  • Bliss yarn: Merlot: 11 (12, 13, 15, 16) balls (Caron International)
  • Coordinating buttons, 3/4”, seven

Project Instructions

    Gauge

  • 1. In Stockinette stitch, using size 10 needles, 13 sts and 20 rows = 4"
  • Back

  • 1. Cast on 62 (68, 73, 80, 87) sts. Begin St st and work even until piece measures 10" (10, 10-1/2, 10-1/2 12)" from beginning, ending with a WS row.
  • Shape Waist

  • 1. (RS) Dec 1 st each side of next row, then every following 6 (5, 6, 6, 7) rows 5 (6, 5, 5, 4) times - 50 (54, 61, 68, 77) sts remain. Work even for 2 (4, 6, 6, 4) rows. Inc 1 st each side of next row, then every following 10 (8, 10, 10, 15) rows 3 (4, 3, 3, 2) times - 58 (64, 69, 76, 83) sts. Work even until piece measures 25-1/2" (26, 27, 27, 28)" from beginning, ending with a WS row.
  • Shape Armholes

  • 1. (RS) Bind off 3 (3, 3, 4, 4) sts beginning next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each side every other row 4 (5, 7, 7, 9) times - 44 (48, 49, 54, 57) sts remain. Work even until armholes measure 8-1/2" (9, 9, 10, 10)" end with a WS row.
  • Shape Shoulders

  • 1. (RS) Bind off 12 (7, 13, 15, 8) sts at beginning next 2 (4, 2, 2, 4) rows. Bind remaining 20 (20, 23, 24, 25) sts for back neck.
  • Pocket Linings (Make 2)

  • 1. Cast on 16 sts. Begin St st and work even until piece measures 13" from beginning, ending with a WS row. Put sts on holder and set aside.
  • Right Front

  • 1. Cast on 30 (34, 36, 40, 42) sts. Begin St st and work even until piece measures 10" from beginning or desired length to pocket, ending with a WS row.
  • Pocket Opening

  • 1. (RS) Work 6 sts, bind off 16 sts for pocket opening, work 16 pocket lining sts from the holder, then work to end of row. (Note: The remaining pocket border will be done when finishing.) Continue with Front working waist shaping as for Back at side edge only - 28 (32, 34, 38, 40) sts. Work even until piece measures 25-1/2" (26, 27, 27, 28)" from beginning, ending with a RS row.
  • Shape Armhole and Neck

  • 1. (WS) Work as for back shaping armhole at beginning of WS rows only; at same time, shape neck at beginning of RS rows dec 1 st on first row, then every 4 (4, 4, 3, 4) rows 6 (9, 8, 3, 8) times, then every 5 (0, 5, 4, 5) rows 2 (0, 2, 8, 2) times - 12 (14, 13, 15, 16) sts remain. Work even until armhole measures same as Back to shoulder shaping, end with a RS row.
  • 2. Shape Shoulder as for Back.
  • Left Front
  • 1. Work right Front, reversing all shaping and pocket placement.
  • Sleeves

  • 1. Cast on 38 (39, 43, 46, 48) sts. Begin St st and inc 1 st each side every 4 (2, 3, 3, 2) rows 1 (3, 2, 2, 3) times - 40 (45, 47, 50, 54) sts. Work even until piece measures 1-1/2" (2, 2, 2-1/2, 3)" from beginning, end with a WS row.
  • Shape Cap
  • 1. Bind off 3 (3, 3, 4, 4) sts beg next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each side every 2 rows 3 (1, 6, 5, 16) times, then every 3 (2, 3, 3, 0) rows 6 (11, 2, 4, 0) times, then every 2 (2, 2, 2, 0) rows 2 (1, 6, 5, 0) rows 2 (1, 6, 5, 0) times. Bind off remaining 12 (13, 13, 14, 14) sts loosely
  • Collar

  • 1. Cast on 100 (105, 108, 113, 116) sts. Begin Garter st and work 2 rows. Bind off 4 sts beg each row 13 times - 48 (53, 56, 61, 64) sts. Work 2 rows. Bind off.
  • Finishing

  • 1. Block pieces to measurements.
  • Pockets
  • 1. Pick up 16 bound-off sts along pocket opening and work a 5-row border in Garter st. Bind off loosely. Tack border sides in place and close pocket lining.
  • 2. Sew shoulder seams.
  • Button Band
  • 1. With RS facing, pick up approximately 84 (86, 88, 88, 90) sts along left Front edge. Work 7 rows Garter st. Bind off loosely.
  • Buttonhole Band
  • 1. Place markers for buttonholes along right Front edge, first 1/2" from lower edge, last 1/2" from lower edge, last 1/2" from beg of neck shaping, remaining 5 evenly spaced between. Work as for Button band; at the same time, on row 4, work buttonholes as follows: * Work to marker, k2tog, yo; rep from * for remaining buttonholes, work to end. Sew on buttons.
  • Collar - Finishing

  • 1. Seam rounded side of collar to neckline with right sides tog and ends of collar placed in centers of front bands.
  • Coat - Finishing

  • 1. Set in sleeves; sew sleeve and side seams leaving side seams open 10" at bottom.
  • 2. Using crochet hook, work 1 row sc around bottom of vest and around side openings. Work 1 row sc around sleeves.
  • 3. Weave in ends and lightly steam.
