Materials

  • Decadent Fibers Pulled Taffy Yarn, in color of choice, 5 skeins

Tools

  • Circular needles, Size 10.5 (6.5mm), 32” long (used as a straight needle) and 16” long, or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Circular needle, Size 9 (5.5mm), 32” long
  • Stitch holders
  • Stitch markers
  • Darning needle

  • Gauge
  • 1. Gauge is 14 sts = 4" (10cm) in Stockinette St (k on RS, p on WS) using larger needles (10.5).
  • Sand Stitch (worked over an even number of sts)
  • 1. When worked straight: Rows 1 and 3 (WS): Knit.
  • 2. Row 2: * K1, p1; rep from * to end.
  • 3. Row 4: * P1, k1; rep from * to end.
  • 4. Rep rows 1-4 for Sand St.
  • 5. When worked in the round: Rnds 1 and 3 (WS): Purl.
  • 6. Rnd 2: * K1, p1; rep from * to end.
  • 7. Rnd 4: * P1, k1; rep from * to end.
  • 8. Rep rnds 1-4 for Sand St.
  • Shawl
  • 1. Using larger needle, cast on 62 sts, and p 1 row.
  • 2. Set up row (RS): Kfb, yo, pm, k2, pm, yo, k8 (left sleeve stitches), yo, pm, k2, pm, yo, k22, yo, pm, k2, pm, yo, k10, yo, pm, k2, pm, yo, k10, yo, pm, k2, pm, yo, kfb - 74 sts.
  • 3. Next 2 rows: Row 1 (WS): P.
  • 4. Row 2: Kfb, * k to next marker, yo, slm, k2, slm, yo; rep from * 4 more times, k to last st, kfb - 86 sts.
  • 5. Rep rows 1 and 2 18 more times, then work row one only once more - 290 sts.
  • 6. Separate Sleeve Sts
  • 7. Next row (RS): Kfb, k to next marker, yo, remove marker, k1 (41 sts), sl next 48 sts onto a holder, cast on 6 sts, pm, k2, pm, cast on 6 sts, k1, remove marker, yo, * k to next marker, yo, slm, k2, slm, yo; rep from * twice more, k to last st, kfb.
  • 8. Next 2 rows: Row 1 (WS): P.
  • 9. Row 2: Kfb, * k to next marker, yo, slm, k2, slm, yo; rep from * 3 more times, k to last st, kfb. Rep rows 1 and 2 7 more times. Remove all markers.
  • 10. Next 2 rows: Row 1 (WS): P.
  • 11. Row 2: Kfb, k to last st, kfb.
  • 12. Rep rows 1 and 2 for 5-1/2" (11.5 cm), ending with a row 2 (RS) row.
  • Lace Edging
  • 1. Cast on 13 sts using cable cast on.
  • 2. Next 14 rows: Row 1 (WS): K2, p9, k1, k2tog tbl.
  • 3. Row 2: Sl 1, k3, yo, k5, yo, k2tog, yo, k2, 15 sts worked.
  • 4. Row 3: K2, p11, k1, k2tog tbl.
  • 5. Row 4: Sl 1, k4, sk2p, k2, (yo, k2tog) twice, k1, 13 sts worked.
  • 6. Row 5: K2, p9, k1, k2tog tbl.
  • 7. Row 6: Sl 1, k3, ssk, k2, (yo, k2tog) twice, k1, 12 sts worked.
  • 8. Row 7: K2, p8, k1, k2tog tbl.
  • 9. Row 8: Sl 1, k2, ssk, k2, (yo, k2tog) twice, k1 - 11 sts worked.
  • 10. Row 9: K2, p7, k1, k2tog tbl.
  • 11. Row 10: Sl 1, k1, ssk, k2, (yo, k2tog) twice, k1, 10 sts worked.
  • 12. Row 11: K2, p6, k1, k2tog tbl.
  • 13. Row 12: Sl 1, ssk, k2, yo, k1, yo, k2tog, yo, k2 - 11 sts worked.
  • 14. Row 13: K2, p7, k1, k2tog tbl.
  • 15. Row 14: Sl 1, (k3, yo) twice, k2tog, yo, k2, 13 sts worked.
  • 16. Rep rows 1-14 until all live shawl sts have been decreased and only Lace Edging sts remain. Bind off all sts.
  • Sleeve
  • 1. With RS facing, attach yarn at center of underarm. Using larger 16" circular needle, pick up and k 1 st, pm, pick up and k 6 more sts, k48 from holder, pick up and k 6 sts at underarm, pm, pick up and k 1 more st, 62 sts. Work in Stockinette St (k every rnd), dec 1 st after 1st marker and 1 st before 2nd marker every 5 rnds 6 times, 50 sts. Work 12 rnds in Sand St, then bind off all sts.
  • Inner Edging
  • 1. With RS facing and using smaller needle, pick up and k 250 sts evenly along inside edge of shawl. Work 3 rows in Sand St, then bind off all sts.
  • Finishing
  • 1. Weave in ends. Block Shawl.
