Pattern - Alphabet Sampler

  • Prepare and Transfer Design
  • 1. Prewash fabric without fabric softener to remove any sizing; let dry. Press.
  • 2. Print out pattern onto Fabri-Solvy sheets, printing top on one sheet and bottom on second sheet. Peel off backing and press transferred pattern to fabric, overlapping as necessary.
  • 3. Position fabric in embroidery frame.
  • Embroider Design
  • 1. Note: All stitches are worked in four strands of thread unless otherwise specified. For each letter, stitches are listed in the order worked.
  • 2. Letter A: Backstitch outline using 601 Cranberry-DK. Backstitch center line using 210 Lavender-MD. Work French knots between backstitches using 333 Blue Violet-VY DK.
  • 3. Letter B: With whipped running stitch, work running stitch using 826 Blue-MD, then whipping using 722 Orange Spice-LT.
  • 4. Letter C: Backstitch outline using 726 Topaz-LT. Fill in with seed stitches using 725 Topaz-MD LT, 745 Pale Yellow-LT, and 704 Bright Chartreuse.
  • 5. Letter D: Fill in letter with encroaching satin stitch using alternating stripes of 333 Blue Violet-VY DK and 340 Blue Violet-MD.
  • 6. Letter E: Work double running stitch using 336 Navy Blue and 721 Orange Spice-MD.
  • 7. Letter F: Satin stitch wider sections and stem stitch narrow sections using 703 Chartreuse.
  • 8. Letter G: Backstitch outline using 721 Orange Spice-MD. For stripes, use threaded backstitch with backstitch worked in 721 Orange Spice-MD and whipped in 726 Topaz-LT.
  • 9. Letter H: Open chain stitch using 333 Blue Violet-VY DK.
  • 10. Letter I: Detached chain stitch flower using two strands of 720 Orange Spice-DK. French knot center using two strands of 725 Topaz-MD LT. Fishbone stitch stem using two strands of 699 Christmas Green.
  • 11. Letter J: Threaded detached chain stitch with chains using two strands of 601 Cranberry-DK and threading loops using four strands of 725 Topaz-MD LT.
  • 12. Letter K: Raised satin stitch center using 826 Blue-MD. Backstitch outline using 703 Chartreuse with French knots between each backstitch.
  • 13. Letter L: Double threaded backstitch working backstitch using 725 Topaz-MD LT and threading using 721 Orange Spice-MD and 601 Cranberry-DK.
  • 14. Letter M: With whipped running stitch, work running stitch using 340 Blue Violet-MD and whipping using 336 Navy Blue.
  • 15. Letter N: Backstitch outline using 601 Cranberry-DK. Fill in with star stitch using two strands of 725 Topaz-MD LT.
  • 16. Letter O: Backstitch outline using 336 Navy Blue. Backstitch stripes using two strands of 704 Bright Chartreuse. Place Chinese knots between stripes using two strands of 699 Christmas Green.
  • 17. Letter P: Work chain stitch using 721 Orange Spice-MD and backstitch using 333 Blue Violet-VY DK.
  • 18. Letter Q: Using 826 Blue-MD, backstitch outline then fill in left side (wide) using St. George's cross-stitch and right side (narrow) using satin stitch.
  • 19. Letter R: Threaded herringbone stitch wide stem using two strands of 721 Orange Spice-MD for herringbone and two strands of 151 Dusky Rose-VY LT for threading. Split stitch right side of letter using 721 Orange Spice-MD.
  • 20. Letter S: Fern stitch using two strands of 703 Chartreuse.
  • 21. Letter T: Knotted buttonhole stitch top arc and zig-zag stitch stem using 722 Orange Spice-LT.
  • 22. Letter U: Loop stitch using two strands of 340 Blue Violet-MD.
  • 23. Letter V: Split stitch center line using 722 Orange Spice-LT and outer stitching using 720 Orange Spice-DK.
  • 24. Letter W: Work whipped satin stitch using 333 Blue Violet-VY DK for raised satin stitch and whipping using two strands of 703 Chartreuse.
  • 25. Letter X: Work whipped chain stitch using three strands of 725 Topaz-MD LT for chain stitch and 826 Blue-MD for whipping.
  • 26. Letter Y: Scroll stitch outline using 336 Navy Blue. Fill in with French knots using 826 Blue-MD.
  • 27. Letter Z: Raised satin stitch fill using 601 Cranberry-DK. Chain stitch outline using 703 Chartreuse.
  • Prepare for Framing
  • 1. Rinse away stabilizer in cool water, changing water frequently. Rinse fabric well from both sides to ensure removal, especially around denser stitching areas. Lay embroidery face down on towel, smooth out, and press dry, working from center to edges on back of fabric only.
  • 2. Center embroidery over foam-core board. Insert flat-head straight pins into sides of board at mid-points, making sure everything is straight and centered. Stand board on edge, pull fabric taut, smoothing without stretching, and secure with pins placed every inch or so into foam center of board.
  • 3. Check again to ensure everything is straight and centered. Hang using bulldog clip or frame as desired.
