Materials

  • Cabin Crafters Star Shaped Brush Caddy (101017) and Bunny Bitty Block Set (101001) (for napkin and paper plate weights)
  • Old cake tin
  • DecoArt Americana Acrylic Paint: Admiral Blue, Bleached Sand, Burnt Umber, Canyon Orange, Cool Neutral, Khaki Tan, Napa Red, Ocean Blue, Snow (Titanium) White, Tomato Red

  • Stencil adhesive spray

Basic Supplies

sandpaper, soft cloth, paper towel, copy paper, pencil

Directions

Prepare Surfaces

  • 1. Use glaze/wash brush to apply even coat of sealer on all wood pieces. Let dry. Sand and wipe dust. Spray two even coats of primer on all metal pieces.
  • 2. Print out pattern onto tracing paper. Transfer wide diagonal band onto star caddy. Use Cool Neutral to paint band and to paint sides of cake tin top.
  • 3. Transfer basic pattern lines, repeating pattern as needed for cake tin. Transfer details as needed.

Painting Designs

  • 1. Note: Use photo as guide throughout.
  • 2. Use Burnt Umber to shade behind all elements using appropriate-size brush.
  • 3. Use Bleached Sand to undercoat all pattern elements and to paint remaining area of star caddy front, napkin and paper plate weights (Bunny Bitty Block Set), and sides of cake tin bottom.
  • 4. Use appropriate-size brush and Tomato Red to paint red areas; shade Napa Red and highlight Canyon Orange. Basecoat all blue areas Admiral Blue; highlight Ocean Blue. Shade Bleached Sand areas Khaki Tan; highlight Snow White.
  • 5. Stencil all stars on blue areas Bleached Sand. To stencil, apply spray adhesive to back of stencil, let dry, and pat off excess spray with paper towel. Press stencil firmly in place. Use duo-tool stencil brush to pick up small amount of paint and tap off excess; working two thin coats, use up and down motion to stencil in open areas of stencil.

Finishing

  • 1. Apply varnish to all surfaces.
